Zone has finally been prepared - with fresh soil, a little rope fence around it, and a sign. Coincidentally, the local wild plant market started as well, so went to check it out. Ended up buying for lovely plants, amomgst others a St. John's Wort. Will buy a few more, then sow some seeds as well

The spot I can now plant things on - it's an approximately 1 x 2m bed surrounding a young elm tree. The bed has been prepared with fresh, dark soil and a rope fence. It's located right next to a busy street, and sort of squeezed between a cark parking spot to the right, and a bicycle parking to the left (not visible here). The fresh soil.will hopefully soon be covered in lovely, colorful plants and flowers.

#NaarnasKitchen was inspired by @mbrobergmoffitt.bsky.social posting an utter treat of home-made pizza to make my own. 😊 I did skip the dough making but bought some from my fave local pizza place (it's good stuff!) Made tomato sauce and all!

Homemade pizza freshly out of the oven, placed on a white cutting board. The pizza looks just the right shade of brown and the cheese has melted perfectly. Toppings are roasted bell peppers and anchovies.

Update - first loaf done 🤤 Now waiting for it to cool down enough that I can transport it to my friend for coffee and cake.

Loaf pan filled with freshly baked cinnamon babka in it. It has a lovely golden brown color, with the darker brown from the cinnamon filling poking through in streaks.

Back on my baking shenanigans 😁 Saw @tkingfisher.com mention babka, and after looking up some recipes, figured it was something right up my alley. Made the dough yesterday evening and let it rise in the fridge, so I can bake it today. #NaarnasKitchen

Babka dough in a metal bowl, covered with cling foil and ready to be placed in the fridge cor overnight rising. The dough has a lovely pale yellow color (as it should be), and from the few taste test bites I managed to sneak into mouth, it's going to be a delicious one once it's baked.

Half of the dough spread out on a piece of pre-cut baking parchment, generously covered in cinnamon-sugar-butter filling and already half rolled up to form what the recipe called a cigar. To the left are several small bowls and kitchen tools, with the ones I used for the spreading of the filling covered with it. At the top is my loaf pan waiting to be filled with the finished babka. All of it is placed on my emptied desk as my kitchen is too small for this part of the preparation.

Carlson admits that, yes, it is a cost (“Students studying fashion at RISD have said to me, ‘Pockets take commitment’”), but money is only a small part of the problem. “Including pockets in menswear is a part of doing business — it isn’t in womenswear,” she says. “That difference suggests that the reason is not merely one of economics.” It’s about gender.

Many have tried to write off women’s lack of pockets as a preference for a more “feminine silhouette.” Think yoga pants, tight-fitting jeans and miniskirts with no room to spare. Though perhaps no one has put it better than Indiana University professor Christopher Todd Matthews, who writes in the academic article “Form and Deformity: The Trouble With Victorian Pockets” that Victorian women were told that they “had four external bulges already — two breasts and two hips — and a money pocket inside their dress would make an ungainly fifth.”

Carlson also stresses that the “gendered distribution of pockets” and the age-old argument of fashion versus function play a role. As she told The New York Times in the 2023 article “Why Don’t Women’s Clothes Have More Pockets?” it’s evident that “men’s clothes are meant for utility and women’s for beauty, [which] old ideas about women’s place and about the more limited social and economic contributions they are expected to make.”

Essentially: Men are required to act and therefore need practical clothing. Women are expected to simply appear and be watched — their beauty prioritized above all else. And these outdated gender ideals are still being sewn directly into our clothing.

@eurosky.social I think you should change the flag for the English language to the Union Jack, not just the red-on-white English cross. Partly because the Union Jack simply is better known, and partly it might be seen as leaving out other Brits.
