I make comics: Fall Through/ Come Again/ Save It For Later/ March/ Lies My Teacher Told Me/ Swallow Me Whole. DIANA out 10/6/26. orders/info: linktr.ee/natepowell
Today marks 6 years since John Lewis passed on to the other side. Memories swirling with everywhere we traveled, people & communities moved by our work, bonds forged over those years & how John’s example impacted the lives of my kids at such a young age— still do, and always will. 💜
The next cryptic DIANA ad in the new issue of Razorcake! It’ll be released on Oct. 6th— preorders are open everywhere, and I’m sending out signed mailorder copies, directly from me, a few weeks early: www.seemybrotherdance.org/shop
Let’s stay loud, stick up for each other, exercise love as an ever-expansive openness, and be ourselves.💐
Fuck the fascists, the homophobes, the transphobes, and those who carry water for them. 💜🖤💜
The very first copies of DIANA (out Oct. 6) and new editions of FALL THROUGH & COME AGAIN (out Sept. 15, all from Abrams ComicArts) arrived from the printer, and they look beautiful! 💐 Preorder now from your local shop/online, or signed copies directly from me here: www.seemybrotherdance.org/shop
Getting started on my next nonfiction book— as artist on a graphic memoir. That’s all I can share. Really excited about this one— more info down the road!
Orders are open for signed copies of DIANA, plus new editions of COME AGAIN & FALL THROUGH— and new prints, directly from me & a month ahead of release date! I also have discounted bundles for all 3 books or all 6 prints— thanks & please spread the word! Order here: www.seemybrotherdance.org/shop
The first batch of DIANA posters, postcards & stickers is headed out to some very supportive comics shops & bookstores! If you’d like to help readers know about my books & get preorders in, please email me at seemybrotherdance@yahoo.com— I’ll get a package out to your store pronto. Thank you! 💐
Michigan! I’ll have art on exhibit July 11-19 to celebrate anniversaries for @vaultofmidnight.bsky.social and @athenaeumcomicart.bsky.social alongside art by Alison Bechdel, Caroline Cash, Noah Van Sciver, Tillie Walden & more. Reception & more info here: www.vaultofmidnight.com/events-add/a...
Attn comic shops & bookstores! If you’d like a signed, limited-run poster & postcards to help spread the word about my book DIANA, email me at seemybrotherdance@yahoo.com — It’s hard for indie graphic novels to maintain awareness/visibility, and your support is incredibly helpful. Thank you! 💜
These commissions are done and on their way— thanks to everyone who ordered, and who’s enjoyed seeing my work on these!
Jody keepin’ it the realest in Old Spice, a short-lived whirlwind of creativity & feeling that’s also wrapped up in a messy, steamy attraction-triangle in DIANA—out Oct. 6th from @abramscomicarts.bsky.social along w/ new editions of FALL THROUGH & COME AGAIN. www.abramsbooks.com/product/dian...
I’ve arrived at the “rearranging index cards on the floor” phase of writing my next solo book. Semi-feral, emotional, lonely anti-technofascist swamp horror. 👹
X-Men commission— mutant diplomacy at the UN! This was the first time since childhood to draw Beast, and my first time to ever ink Emma Frost.
And some words of faith from John Lewis as I began full-steam-ahead pencils for March: Book One. 🖤
Two MARCH pages hung in our house: my favorite single page from the trilogy, and a page I keep at my desk, which helps keep me going. I look at these every single day.
Two of my favorite drawings of John Lewis, from Books 1 & 3 respectively.
This morning w/ one of my unpublished MARCH tryout pages from January 2011.
Meeting John Lewis for the first time (and Andrew Aydin for the second), Sept. 2012. I didn’t know how I should dress, so I wore a 3-piece suit in muggy DC and was sweating buckets. We ate cornbread together within minutes of meeting!
Today marks 10 years since finishing the MARCH trilogy— a life-changing collaboration, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in so many ways. I’m endlessly thankful to John & Andrew for trusting me at the drawing table. A few of my favorite panels & snippets along the way:
It looks like my variant cover for MINOR ARCANA issue 16 has a final order cutoff date this Monday, May 25th! According to Boom, mine are covers B & F— so maybe one of em’s a virgin variant? We’ll see! Get those orders in with your local comics shop— thanks!
My Neighbor Totoro commission! I was deeply moved while painting this piece— both a keystone in my kids’ lives, and a pretty big influence on my book Swallow Me Whole. In my top 20 favorite movies— this was a joy to make. 💙
Diana piece I did over the weekend to check back in with her. 🖤 I’ve really been feeling the siren’s call of black & white line art lately.
One year ago today, I finished drawing DIANA— the truest & most satisfying creative experience of my life. Made in a near-obsessive, immersive state that’s increasingly rare as the world presses against us from every direction, and I don’t know if I’ll ever have an experience like this again. 🖤
Most excellent new commission request! Silk, Batgirl, Robin: three Asian-American superheroines fighting the fascist forces of ICE. I drew this in the spirit & visual echo of Captain America punching out Hxtler in early 1941.
New commission— Magik w/ costume designed by the all-time great Arthur Adams! Worn only once in X-Men Annual 10 (1986)— that issue, combined w/ Adams’ “Asgardian Wars” annuals, made Illyana an instant favorite character of mine AND prompted me to begin drawing comics as a 12 year old.
