Oil & Water Don't Mix
@owdm
Empowering advocates to shut down Enbridge Line 5, America's Most Dangerous Oil Pipeline.
For now, MEPA is Michigan’s best friend for protecting the Great Lakes and environment - and we're happy that the Michigan Supreme Court chose water over corporate profits. Read our new Substack piece: https://thecurrentowdm.substack.com/p/michigan-went-the-other-way
🎉 THE GREAT LAKES WON TODAY. MISC just vacated the permit for Enbridge's Line 5 oil tunnel — 6 to 1. The oil tunnel has no state siting approval, which is required under federal law. This victory belongs to the Tribes who never stopped fighting: They led. The Court listened. #ShutDownLine5
The fight to shut down Line 5 is far from over. Join us on August 11 at 7 p.m. EST as we break down the EGLE permit decision and share what comes next. #ShutDownLine5 RSVP at https://www.oilandwaterdontmix.org/monthly_campaign_call_20260811#rsvp

If you're as pissed as we are that @govwhitmer.bsky.social Gov. Whitmer and EGLE awarded Enbridge permits for its dangerous and unnecessary oil tunnel through the heart of the #GreatLakes - let her know here: www.oilandwaterdontmix.org/cant_see_str...

After 70K+ comments and Michiganders saying firmly NO to the Line 5 tunnel, EGLE has approved Enbridge’s resource permits to build the tunnel under the Straits of Mackinac. This would be a disaster for our Great Lakes, but the fight isn't over. 👉 https://www.oilandwaterdontmix.org/cant_see_straits

Dear Gov. Whitmer: Michigan's freshwater economy depends on keeping our Great Lakes safe for the next seven generations, and Enbridge's Line 5 oil tunnel is a step in the wrong direction. We need you to say #NoLine5OilTunnel!
We all have the power right now to contact Gov. Whitmer's administration to reject the Line 5 oil tunnel permits. #NoLine5OilTunnel
The Line 5 tunnel is for Big Oil profit, not for Great Lakes safety. Reject the Line 5 tunnel project. https://www.oilandwaterdontmix.org/submit_water_discharge_permit_comment

Did you notice the airplane overhead at the annual Mackinac Policy Conference? ✈️
We had a message to deliver to Gov. Whitmer and Mackinac Policy Conference attendees this year... #ShutDownLine5
Enbridge’s oil tunnel is a ploy for the corporation to continue making millions each year while Line 5 remains open past its expiration date.
Enbridge is back with a different permit application, and this one could allow the company to discharge billions of gallons of industrial construction wastewater into Lake Michigan while it drills a tunnel through the Straits of Mackinac.
Scenes from today's gathering in Traverse City outside the Great Lakes Drinking Water Conference where folks showed up to say #ShutDownLine5 and demand that the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) rejects Enbridge's permits for their risky oil tunnel plan!
Allowing paid fossil fuel propaganda is not a good look, @axios.com 👀
Big Oil doesn't care about how much your energy bills cost. They just care about extracting more profits –– even amid a global crisis. #peoplevsfossilfuels #shutdownline5
Five years ago, Gov. Whitmer told Enbridge to stop messing with our Great Lakes. We're still celebrating this win, but Enbridge is closer than ever in building the Line 5 tunnel to would lock in another century of oil flowing through the beating heart of North America's largest freshwater ecosystem.
The final countdown for EGLE’s tunnel permit decision is imminent. On May 20 join advocates to peacefully uplift the importance of shutting down Line 5 at the Great Lakes Drinking Water Conference! Sign up here: https://forms.gle/xBus2qiD4wRQsfTe8
The clock is ticking on Line 5 and critical safety questions remain unanswered. PHMSA has never preemptively shut down a pipeline, and waiting is a choice we can’t afford to make in the Great Lakes.
An orderly shutdown of Enbridge's Line 5 would not harm energy supplies, but it would uphold Great Lakes protections and honor Tribal sovereignty. How long will we allow the violent path to be chosen instead? Read more here:
A “trust us” pinky promise from a company with a track record like Enbridge isn’t good enough for our Great Lakes. Demand Gov. Whitmer and EGLE conduct a comprehensive review of the proposed Great Lakes tunnel: https://www.oilandwaterdontmix.org/decision_watch
