Back in the Tate Modern again - third time in the last few weeks - thumbs up for these four.
Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde I love the photos on the back, but they’re too small on the CD so I couldn't resist getting the LP on Friday. The CD has remixes so I'm hearing the correct version for the 1st time. This lineup is fantastic. Was Gene Parsons destined to be a Byrd just because of his name?
I couldn’t resist these today. Four records for £1 in the YMCA charity shop!
I’m really enjoying this new album from Kevin Armstrong (excellent guitarist/songwriter who worked with Bowie, Iggy etc.) The music is as great as you’d hope. It’s good to be reminded that KA is also a really strong, emotive singer too. Recommended!
… and I’m very happy to now be listening to this lovely Spanish copy of his second album. So good to finally have this.
This afternoon I paid a visit to @lookingforthemagic.bsky.social and as a direct result I’m now listening to Neil Young’s first album. I’ve heard it many times before, but this copy sounds superior to my ears. Brilliant songs and a unique, layered production.
Local leaflet in the letterbox today. Three of these boxes were painted by me. Maybe it’s time I submitted some more designs!
Large Plants The Thorn Ghost Box Records, 2023 After I was transported into the world of Large Plants last week I wanted to stay there so I ordered the second album and it arrived yesterday. Listening now. The music is so good! Jack’s lyrics conjure up mysteries.
Continuing my listen of Hancock’s Half Hour series 4, with two brilliant episodes this afternoon. ‘Michelangelo ‘Ancock’ is one where the writing and the cast are perfectly in sync. Good to hear Hattie fitting in so well. I guessed what would happen at the end but that was part of the appeal.
Large Plants The Carrier Ghost Box Records, 2022 Jack Sharp’s music is always worth hearing but I’m only now belatedly catching up with this LP. Like all Ghost Box records, it sounds like it’s come from a parallel universe that’s superior to ours.
Very quick visit to the Tate Modern this afternoon. Here are the paintings that were the most inspiring this time.
I’m obsessed with the series of last-known John and Paul photos. Here are two of my interpretations.
Here’s a get-together of various Fifth #Beatles. How many can you identify? Who is the most (and least) deserving of the Fifth Beatle crown?
I’ve been enjoying seeing some great posts for #globalbeatlesday. Or is it #worldbeatlesday? Some kind of #beatles day anyway. So I thought I’d post a thread with some of my Beatley creations. First, 196 hand drawn album covers from Please Please Me to Dungeon Lane.
I took a lot of horrible old ruined cushions to the tip yesterday but I kept one… I think Tilly appreciates it.
I’ve been listening to lots of Gene Clark recently. No Other blew me away all over again last week. I'm obsessed with his contributions to the McGuinn/Clark/Hillman album... an odd & underrated record... And today I got Roadmaster in the post so I'm going to give it a listen later.
