Michael needed a copy of his DD214 for a Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB) application. He served in the Navy Reserve, but was unable to verify that. My office worked with him to gather required paperwork and the Navy finally confirmed his service record. CA50 now has one more VOSB to enjoy!
The unprecedented self-dealing we see from President Trump and his administration isn’t just an affront to our Constitution. The American people pay a real price. Learn more in this episode of 72 and Sunny with @schiff.senate.gov at the link in my bio.
Once again, House Republicans are trying to pass their own, partisan budget. This time, they want Congress to pay billions of dollars for President Trump’s war in Iran, which will explode our unstable national debt.
ICE agents shot and killed 2 people. The victims weren't even the intended targets. These agencies are overfunded and undertrained, and it's time they're held accountable. I introduced SEFI back to put commonsense guardrails on federal agents once and for all. No more excuses. Congress must act.
Last month, Congress passed the largest bipartisan housing package in decades. Even though President Trump refused to sign it, it became law anyway — proof that Democrats and Republicans can still work together to get things done without the president's say-so.
I secured Ocean Discovery Institute's first grant in my City Council days! It was great to visit this week and see the organization hard at work to educate students about oceanography and STEM careers. This is exactly the kind of effort the federal government should be funding, not cutting.
This past year has sparked important conversations about how to best fund, care for, and strengthen Balboa Park for people to enjoy for years to come. Forever Balboa Park has a vision to get it done. Learn more in this episode of 72 and Sunny with their CEO, Katy McDonald, at the link in my bio.
I’ve often said that the United States of America is the greatest democracy in the history of the world, but it depends on us not being so divided against ourselves. It’s an honor to serve CA50 in Congress and I’ll always do my part to ensure we continue to strive for a more perfect union. 1/2
Got to spend some time with the Marines at Liberty Station yesterday. Wishing all our US armed forces and Secretary Hegseth, a happy Fourth of July!
I’m proud to be an American and live in a country of the people, by the people, and for the people. And I asked folks around Liberty Station’s Anchored in Freedom celebration why they’re proud to be American. Check out what they had to say.
My generation ran up the national debt, but it's young Americans who pay the price. If we don’t get our fiscal house in order, they won’t be able to buy a home, start a family, or pay off their loans.
The Tom Sawyer-like volunteers of Forever Balboa Park add $1.4 million in value to this special landmark. Learn more about how the Park operates behind the scenes in this episode of 72 and Sunny with Forever Balboa Park CEO, Katy McDonald, at the link in my bio.
Jake was approved for the Veteran's Readiness & Employment (VR&E) program but needed help to get a retroactive induction to recoup time on his GI Bill to use at a later time. My staff worked with him & the VA to get it approved and he received a refund of months on his GI bill equal to $22,331.91!
President Trump is refusing to sign a major, bipartisan housing relief deal, including my Housing Supply Expansion Act, just to make it harder for Americans to vote. Enough with the games. Sign the damn bill.
June 21 marks ASK Day, a reminder to ask one important question: “Is there an unlocked gun where my child plays?” To help spread the message, I joined local leaders and advocates to underscore the importance of keeping kids safe from unsecured firearms. 1/2
Happy Father’s Day, San Diego. I treasure being a dad to my two kids, and now a grandfather too! And I’m leaning on my dad’s teachings as a minister about leadership and service to others a little extra these days. I hope everyone enjoys time with a father or father figure who you look up to today.
One month after the hateful shooting that killed 3 heroic men at the Islamic Center of San Diego, I met with Imam Taha to ask how he and the community are healing. He shared that they’re recovering, slowly. But more must be done to prevent hate speech from becoming bullets that kill innocent people.
Juneteenth is a pivotal event in our history and we must never forget the work done to make it a federal holiday that reflects on the injustice of slavery. Today is both a joyful celebration of freedom and resilience, and a call to action in our ongoing fight toward a more perfect union.
I secured home $2 million in Community Project Funding to revitalize Grand Ave in Escondido. It was great to check out the upgrades they’re making and hear about the ongoing work to make it an active, thriving city center. I also got to learn about Escondido’s new wildfire resilient neighborhood.
There’s a lot I love about San Diego, but our spirit and culture of collaboration and innovation continues to surprise me. Tune in to 72 and Sunny at the link in my bio or most podcast platforms for more q&a!
Last week, I presented the Congressional Gold Medal to Hayden and Kihwan from CA50. They completed over 400 volunteer service hours, 200 hours of personal development, and 200 hours of physical fitness. I’m impressed with their discipline and commitment to the Congressional Award program!
I look forward to the Aaron Price Fellows program’s visit to DC each year because I get to learn what motivated these students to get involved in this special program and talk to them about my path in public service. I know they’ll remain bright, dedicated members of their community!
I voted against another $70 billion for ICE and Border Patrol. That money could help lower costs for hardworking Americans. Instead, it's going to a rogue agency that has left my constituents in San Diego and communities across the country living in fear.
Voter fraud is virtually nonexistent - and I have the receipts to prove it. Click the link in my bio to learn more about Republicans’ backwards efforts to suppress voters and what @agrobbonta.oag.ca.gov and I are doing to protect the fundamental right to vote.
From higher gas prices to higher energy bills, American families simply can’t afford President Trump’s reckless war in Iran. I can think of a lot of better ways to spend $100 billion that would make life easier and more affordable for Americans, not harder and less affordable.
Today, we #WearOrange to honor the countless lives impacted by gun violence and to ensure we never stop working to end this preventable crisis. We do not have to live in fear of the next horrific mass shooting. We must ban assault weapons, expand background checks, and so much more to save lives.
It’s Election Day in California! If you have not already, go exercise your patriotic duty, right, and privilege. Your vote is your voice and your voice matters. Visit sdvote.gov to learn how to cast your ballot today.
Happy National Pride Month! Pride began as a protest against discrimination and violence toward the LGBTQ+ community. We’ve come a long way since the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, and today, Pride is a joyful celebration of our LGBTQ+ neighbors and loved ones’ strength and resilience. 1/2
We’re not entitled to our democracy. We have to fight for it. But @agrobbonta.oag.ca.gov said it best - we should never feel hopeless because we’re not helpless. Watch the full episode of 72 and Sunny at the link in my bio to learn more about our ongoing fight to protect the sacred right to vote.
Emerald from Rancho Bernardo needed help with a delayed grant that threatened layoffs at UCSD’s Biodynamics Lab. My staff worked with Emerald and the NIH to determine the cause of the grant’s delay and within a month, the lab received their full grant funding!
