Proudly serving #NC02. Former civil rights attorney and NC legislator. Committees: Judiciary and Science, Space, and Technology
I led a roundtable to discuss how this admin harmed higher education by changing student loan rules. Trump’s policies are hurting the future teachers, healthcare workers, business leaders, & more that Wake County needs. I'll keep fighting to make sure higher ed remains a pathway to opportunity.
I'm fighting in Washington to make life easier for folks in North Carolina. Lately, that looks a lot like fighting against bad policies that do nothing to bring down costs. Hear more:
This morning, I announced $850,000 in safety improvements to Jones Sausage Road alongside Garner Mayor Gupton, members of the Garner Town Council, key staff and the Garner PD. This project will help ensure our infrastructure is safe, efficient, and built for the future.
I love going to the farmers market; I know where my food comes from and I pay fair prices that go straight to NC farmers. But families are struggling to afford groceries, gas, and more because of this admin. With 100 days until Election Day, it's clear we're moving in the wrong direction.
Despite how this admin advertises a new “gold-standard” in science, scientific research is collapsing nationwide. Trump & his political appointees now want to control ALL grant decisions, risking clinical trials, biotech, & more. It's a cheap cover-up of their costly threats to science.
A new Republican bill would make any child who overstays their visa a criminal--even if they're with a parent or don't have the ability to leave on their own. This isn't about safety. This is about hurting immigrant children. @raskin.house.gov and I explain:
House Republicans want to pass an immigration bill that would criminalize children—even toddlers— who overstay their visas. We can't trust this admin to treat children humanely or follow the law as is. Why would we trust them with a new law that could damage more kids?
NEW: I launched an investigation w/ Rep. Valerie Foushee + @adams.house.gov into Duke Energy's settlement with the Trump admin to abandon an offshore wind project off the NC coast in exchange for a payout. We will get answers. www.newsobserver.com/news/politic...
Nearly 6 years after we lost civil rights icon John Lewis, President Trump is spreading lies and pushing to take voting access away from millions of Americans. We can't let that happen. We must follow John Lewis' legacy, get into some good trouble, and exercise our right to vote this November.
I was honored to receive the Equal Rights Amendment Champion Certificate. Today is an important day to discuss equal rights - on the 6-year anniversary of civil rights leader John Lewis' death. Lewis fought for equal rights for all Americans, no matter their gender, race, or religion. 1/2
Todd Blanche faces the Senate today. From Trump's slush fund to the mishandling of the Epstein files and Ghislaine Maxwell's shady prison transfer, the evidence is clear: the Senate must vote NO on confirming him as Attorney General.
I was proud to join Cary Mayor Weinbrecht and @wakegov Chair Don Mial to announce over $1 million in federal funding for Walnut Creek. Since the 90s, Cary and Raleigh residents have worked to restore Walnut Creek. This funding shows what we can achieve when communities and government work together.
It was an honor to present the N.C. Council of Women with a commemorative flag to honor their contributions to our nation. As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, it is essential to recognize the role of women in shaping America's past and defining our future.
I had a great time celebrating America’s 250th anniversary at Capitol 250 Freedom Fest in Raleigh. This milestone serves as an opportunity to come together, reflect on our history, and remember that the work of building a more perfect union is never done.
Happy Independence Day! As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, I'm reflecting on the enduring ideal enshrined in the Declaration of Independence: that all of us are created equal. Wishing everyone a safe and happy day of celebration!
Despite what this administration says, the war with Iran isn't over. I attended a briefing with Marco Rubio & Steve Witkoff, where they refused to answer legitimate questions about our security, economy, and impacts on our allies.
Join me on Tuesday, July 7th for a Town Hall in Morrisville! I want to hear from you about the issues that matter most to you and your family. RSVP HERE: forms.gle/VQpZqtkKPa2y...
It was all hands on deck to introduce a consequential piece of legislation: a House resolution to commemorate the Carolina Hurricanes' historic Stanley Cup Championship. Congress must unanimously agree: Canes in six!
I'm on Capitol Hill to do my job, but Trump sent Congress into chaos by deciding not to sign a bipartisan bill to lower housing costs. He cares more about taking away Americans' voting rights than providing affordable housing.
All season, the #Canes showed the grit and teamwork that define North Carolina — and proved that the South is hockey country. I was proud to celebrate this historic victory on the House floor.
Air traffic control operators work diligently to keep travelers safe. But behind the scenes, they face infrastructure and facilities needs, raising serious health and safety concerns. I had the opportunity to visit operators at RDU to hear firsthand how Congress can address these challenges.
Raleigh is a hockey town. I'm glad to hear that our small businesses also celebrated this weekend, reporting major boosts in sales from the parade. There's nothing better than when good news leads to more good news for our community.
Ghislaine Maxwell has undoubtedly received special treatment from this administration. She was moved to a cushy prison & Trump has reportedly considered giving her a pardon. Make no mistake: Trump is implicated in these files. A pardon of Maxwell will only solidify his guilt.
Trump’s reckless attacks on democracy and global stability make it more important than ever to protect the relationship between the U.S. and Europe. I am grateful to be in Brussels to deepen our partnerships and to collaborate on solutions to reduce global emissions. @houseseec.bsky.social
Ahead of the Dobbs anniversary, I met with reproductive rights advocates to discuss the latest attacks on women’s health. I will stand firm in the fight to restore a woman’s right to make her own medical decisions.
I was honored to present an award to WRAL for their excellent reporting at the National Association of Broadcasters' annual awards ceremony. Local journalism helps shine a light on some of the most important issues affecting communities across the country.
The DOJ is attempting a cover-up. I discovered a policy change that now lets the AG approve prison transfers at their discretion. This comes after they moved Ghislaine Maxwell to a prison that doesn't allow sex offenders. This is an attempt to cover their tracks. I will keep demanding answers.
