I Hear a New World, Joe Meek and The Blue Men I thought I’d heard everything the 50s and 60s had to offer, and then @telstarman.bsky.social had me listen to this. Music from another planet, created through incredible production techniques. Big fan of deeply uncommercial work that really goes for it
Commercial Album, The Residents The 1st thing I did when I went to college was go to a record store, and I bought the cassette of this I’d heard weird music, but this rewrote my brain to allow nearly any sound to be musical
We were marveling at the very boomer choices in a list of musts for albums, and I realized that I have a noble calling
I’m Breathless, Madonna For most of the 70s and 80s I tried to not enjoy popular artists, because I hated myself. This helped break me out of that nonsense for the simple reason that this tie-in concept album was the best part of the Dick Tracy movie
Nemesisters, Babes in Toyland “Sweet ‘69” had more chaotic energy than I’d heard on a mainstream station, and it’s maybe the most normal track on the album. This album is the foundational basis of my work mix
Sleepwalker, The Kinks I picked this up at a used record store for a buck. This may have been the first LP I got at a store? Years later, my brother finally admitted it’s pretty good, but he made fun of me at the time 🙄 I played the hell out of it, and the title track is a fave serial killer bop
