$Softbank Group, its subsidiary SB Energy, and the U.S. Department of Energy, broke ground in March on a 3,700-acre data center complex in Piketon, Ohio, the site of a de-commissioned 1950s uranium enrichment facility. No environmental studies were reported to have been done on the site before the project was announced. It is estimated to emit a CO2 equivalent of 3.8 M cars a year. $Cathy Cowan Becker, Save Ohio Parks board president, told media at a press conference that gas fracked from Ohio public lands would likely be used to run massive AI data centers. She listed five projects that alone will spew millions of pounds of carbon dioxide into the air each day for the next 10 to 20 years next to schools, parks and animal shelters.
