Small Saga on Switch on August 14th... 🐀LET'S GO RODENTS 🐀
It's about a half-hour long read, but it also features some of my extremely high-quality concept art.
Transcribing a conversation with my porting partner.
I put some subtle commentary on British politics in Small Saga. See if you can spot the political message in this clip.
The kind of insane bug that can only happen with Unity. Maths broke because the operating system is too European.
My ads have become too targeted so now I only see things like direct pleas from Yoko Shimomura to hear the music of Live A Live live.
I’m always saying these things. (From The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls, a banger of a game.)
I never watched Star Trek DS9, so each time one of you posts about “Odo” I just assume you’re talking about Bishop Odo of Bayeux, who asserted that it was wrong for clerics to spill blood, so he used a bludgeoning club instead.
I’m playing Chrono Cross for the first time. I’m playing without a guide because I just know it’ll say things like, “yeah, you missed your chance to recruit the sentient pink dog”, and obviously I can’t handle that level of guilt.
In The World Ends With You, clothing has a "bravery" stat. If a character lacks bravery, they are unable to wear the best equipment the game has to offer.
If you asked a nation of games developers whether it's rude to "assume you understand what the player wants more than the player does", you would spark a civil war.
If you yearn for this formula, you should consider trying Ruina: Fairy Tale of the Forgotten Ruins. It's the distilled essence of investigate-the-town, brave-the-dungeon, repeat.
The games I played this year (or at least, the ones I catalogued). I don't have a favourite, but I found Ruina, NGE: Shito Ikusei, Consume Me, Unfair Flips, and Formless Star all memorable for different reasons.
I like the pixel art of the Wonderswan Neon Genesis Evangelion game. The vast majority of the screen time is spent looking at “90’s cool” interfaces and liminal spaces, which is honestly a good representation of the series.
Oh, yeah, NPC writing is the best. You can do worldbuilding, add a gameplay tip, or just invent a memorable weirdo. Or a whole city of weirdos. It's great.
Heck yeah, rattoos 🐀 🪽 ☀️ Wonderful art by Dunkan Nober at Rivergate Tattoo.
You ever see a show with a colour palette so good that it makes you want to steal it?
Me every time I walk past a CEX and see a Game Boy Micro in the window.
Using this as a creative writing exercise where, to maximally waste the reader's time, I start with a plausible-sounding story and descend into chaos.
If you need 120 NPCs for a project, might I suggest being inspired by/stealing from Les Songes drolatiques de Pantagruel (1565).
