I don’t think it’s a perfect approach but for Heavyweight I opted to have a list of endnotes in the back that reference the page and panel without inserting numbers into panels. If the book was physically larger I might have opted for footnotes on the page but they would have been minuscule.
One more day of Pride and then they’ll put me away until next year (jk this one comes out in the fall).
