Went to a fancy restaurant while on my Sydney book tour on the weekend and they were using AI illustrations for the menu and all of the advertising in the bathroom. Disgoostin'.
Me at 6pm on a Sunday: I should buy a riso printer. I will hyperfixate on this all week now. My pile of urgent work that needs to be done:
I THINK I FOUND FIRE ANTS IN MY SUBURB ON A VACANT LOT???? They are all different sizes with a dirt mound nest 🔪🔪🔪🔪🔪
An unforeseen outcome of having a kid called 'Augie' is that your Google Home will think his name is this instead.
For 10 minutes every morning, sunlight slants through my studio window at such an angle that it casts shadows of the doodles I drew upon the window pane onto my desk 💖
My 5yo has become the owner of two spiny leaf stick insects and I am now obsessed with them??? I would die for Leafy and Spiny.
Some of my favourite pages from 'Good Morning, My Deer' written by Mel Amon and published by @scribepub.bsky.social ! As a pun-lover, I had SO MUCH FUN adding in as many puns as I could in each spread.
Anyone with any plant knowledge know what the hell has infected my fiddle leaf fig??!?! They're like little black worms, but act like scale, ie. they're hard, immobile, and I can scratch them off. I've never seen anything like it before!
Watched a film all the way through in one sitting for the first time since the baby was born.
It's actually illegal to read this book without putting on a Cockney accent for the skeletons, fyi.
Obsessed with this drawing my son did of me for Mother's Day in which I look like Jagannath, the formidable, unfathomably ancient, pre-Hinduism lord of the universe.
Eavesdropping on a group of property investors at a cafe who are discussing how bad this budget is for them.
If I had a nickel for every time I went on a short holiday to a tropical destination and got hit by a cyclone while there, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Trying to recover from burnout means I'm forbidden from working after I put the kids to bed, so nowadays I spent every evening like this instead.
When I was pregnant with my son, we called him The Desert Rose because I fell pregnant with him unexpectedly after infertility struggles. On his due date, we bought a desert rose plant. It just bloomed for the very first time today, a week before my desert rose baby's second birthday 😭❤️
I don't have a facebook account, yet it looks like someone out there really REALLY thinks I should.
Tonight, for the first time in months, I don't have to do any work. I...don't know what to do with myself.
I was squinting at the back of a Halloween-themed Eric Carle book to try to figure out if the art in those 'World of Eric Carle' books is actually by him or not, but then I saw something in the imprint text that was infinitely more interesting.
I'm illustrating a boardbook on Rihanna and thus have been looking at a million pics of her, and...like...I think this might be the most beautiful a human has ever looked??? How is she real????????
Saw Thunderhead at my local library!!!!! Screamed and showed it to my kid, who was not interested in the slightest. Ego is now comfortably in check 🫡
In Sydney for a workshop with the Sydney Opera House's digital learning program! It's a resource that teachers can stream in their classrooms! I chatted about Thunderhead and creativity with Sally Coleman, it was a blast!
