The irony, of course, is that thousands of Muslims serve in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including Muslim religious leaders like Sheikh Said Ismagilov. There are even Muslim-majority units such as the Sheikh Mansur Chechen Peacekeeping Battalion. There are Muslim-majority units.
Yes, you don’t know what you’re talking about beyond regurgitating Assadist talking points. It was the Assad regime that released Islamist militants and jihadists from the regime’s prison system with the aim of co-opting and radicalizing the revolution.
A lot of the Western far-left’s foreign policy is simply paternalism, racism, and Islamophobia dressed up as progressivism. Never mind that millions of Syrians supported the revolution against Assad. Never mind that hundreds of thousands have died for a free Syria rid of Assad.
Factually incorrect. Political scientists widely argue that under the Assad regime, Syria had entered into the status of a “partially failed state” due to the regime’s inability to control its territory, its dependence on Russia, & the breakdown of public services & the economy
Turkey houses one of the largest asylum seeker populations in the world, including both Muslim & Christian asylum seekers from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Russia, & Ukraine. Bangladesh houses more than 1 million Rohingya refugees, Jordan & Lebanon combined have registered over 1.6 million Syrian refugees.
Over the past couple of days, we have seen how the regime has stopped people from providing aid to survivors in some of the hardest-hit areas and turned away medical and emergency personnel simply because they are perceived as being against the regime
Reminder that this is the type of governmental structure Western “anti-imperialist” far-left organizations like CodePink have spent years sanitizing in regard to Venezuela…
For years Russia has positioned itself as a preferable “anti-colonial” alternative to Western influence across Africa. Any African country or leader that still subscribes to such a narrative is living in a delusional state…
A better question is why Israel seems intent on creating yet another existential threat for itself, unless elements within the Israeli government believe that continued instability and chaos throughout the region serve their interests and their interests alone.
The statement comes across as extreme because this is how extremists talk. There’s no need to intellectualize genocidal rhetoric. If someone tells you who they are believe them. Trying to explain away this language is like justifying a man beating his wife because he grew up with an abusive father
It should not be lost on anyone that collective punishment was actively used by the Nazis themselves as “atonement exercises.” In 1941, the Nazis killed around 4,000 Serbs as an atonement for attacks that killed German soldiers.
DSA's base is anti-West & reflexively opposed to any form of Western foreign policy, Ukraine comes to represent everything they despise (i.e U.S. NATO, etc.) Many of them have an infantile worldview when it comes to foreign policy....
One of Russia's greatest successes in contemporary times has been its ability to accelerate polarization within the US through a "post-trutherism" approach. (1)
In 2018–2019, Russia was systematically bombing hospitals and medical facilities in Syria by using coordinates obtained through a UN “no-strike list” designed to protect hospitals from attack. Through this method, Russia was able to strike 4 separate hospitals within a 12-hour period within Syria
Baldwin was one of the most heavily surveilled intellectuals of his generation. The FBI compiled a 1,884-page file on the writer, one of the largest dossiers maintained on any African American artist. For Baldwin Turkish society offered him a reprieve from racial scrutiny he received in the states.
Archival footage of Baldwin in Istanbul. Baldwin self-exiled to Istanbul during the 1960s, where he would spend the next decade in Türkiye completing some of his most celebrated work. Or, as Baldwin once stated: "Türkiye saved my life!"
During the height of the Syrian conflict, Turkey housed the largest population of Syrian refugees in the world (3.2 million), followed by Lebanon (1.5 million) and Jordan (620,900), not to mention Iraq and Egypt also hosted sizable refugee populations. (1)
Many Russia whitewashers live in a perpetual state of projection. In a recent podcast, Greenwald argues that EU countries want to send more people to become cannon fodder on the frontlines of Ukraine because “they are running out of people” to continue their warmongering “obsession” with Russia (1)
Translation: I view Palestinians (and anyone else impacted by Israel’s expansionist policies) as less than human, which allows me to rationalize the continued slaughter of civilians across the region.
Gabbard sided with Russia when she traveled to Syria in 2017 to meet with Assad and his Russian-backed allies and choosing to spend her trip whitewashing the crimes of the Syrian regime and its Russian backers.
One could write an entire thesis on the multitude of inaccuracies in Azealia’s understanding of Putin’s current geopolitical standing, but to argue that the EU and UK want “what Putin has” when Putin has lost influence in Syria and Hungary within a matter of years…
MTG has referenced preserving “uniquely Anglo-Saxon political traditions” & argued that white men “are the most mistreated group of people in the US.” She referred to Muslim lawmakers as the “Jihad Squad,” & has argued that the US is facing an “Islamic invasion.” (1)
If sacrificing one’s political career means MTGs net worth surged from 700,000 USD before entering the House to approximately 25 million, then so be it. (1)
MTG and her immediate family have a long history of engaging in Islamophobia and racism, including her ex-husband who was caught on camera publicly harassing Muslim women with Islamophobic insults. (1)
When you realize a lot of contrarian foreign policy boils down to simple victim-blaming, it becomes much easier to digest the simplicity of the mindset behind it. (1)
Living within a “post-truth” society means willfully rejecting concrete evidence staring you dead in the face. (1)
Reminder that this same individual was promoted heavily in leftist anti-imperialist/anti-war spaces during the Syrian conflict and at the start of the invasion of Ukraine for his supposed sharp foreign policy analysis. (1)
The “facts don’t care about your feelings crowd” ignoring the fact that Turkey backed opposition groups in Syria that were actively fighting Russia. Or that Turkey shot down a Russian jet in 2015. (1)
