Wildfire was still smoking in Glencullen area in the Dublin mountains yesterday. Fair play to all the firefighters up and down the country fighting fires like this. Leave no trace!

I'm feeling more confident about The Planter's Daughter and my status as a self-published novelist. It's selling slowly and modestly, but it is selling. It's longlisted for a major award and has had kind words from fellow authors. I love the new cover. I only wish its theme weren't so timely :/

I just got this beautiful hardback of my friend Wafaa’s stories from Gaza. Wafaa’s work bears testimony to living history in all its horrors but never surrenders to the darkness, while gently and constantly reminds me what writing is for. Just gorgeous and warmly recommended. Available on Amazon.

Was out for a walk with my son in Curragh Woods the other day and there was a solar farm next to us and yeah it did look like a hulking military graveyard but better than these fuckers who spray a wild meadow with herbicide and who would presumably be first to object to stuff like this

I totally empathise with Mary Costello’s distress here as she admits the horrors of Gaza have frozen her creative impulse. However I would say that my friend Wafaa Alothmani, writing as a displaced citizen in Gaza, has a gentle clarion call in her article “Why I Write”. (Link in reply)
