Tea Based Justice, Served Piping Hot. I’ll be yapping here about Magic the Gathering, Gay Stuff, and Whatever I Feel Like.
Magic Card of the Day: Fledgling Mawcor Who doesn’t like a pinger? I do miss when the beast creature type was just about anything. Like is a Mawcor a specific thing? Or is it just a two headed floating spark shooter? Idk, it’s certainly a cute thing like a hippo is cute. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Psionic Blast The color pie has gone through a lot of evolution but Blue’s relationship to direct damage is a fascinating artifact. The rate feels a bit off here, but it’s still reasonable in 20 life formats. I would love to see someone win an EDH game with it tho! #mtg
I haven’t been annoyed about this much discourse on the rules about an otter 🦦 since folks were debating how much hair you need to stop being a twink. #mtg #mysterybooster3 #Tolabow
Magic Card of the Day: Jolrael, Empress of Beasts Prophecy’s Spellshapers are a real interesting design, a real primordial version of the future “Prepared” mechanic. Jolrael is unique in that she can turn one of your opponents lands into creatures, threatening a one sided Armageddon. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Faithful Mending Card selection is really valuable in Magic, particularly in control strategies. Card advantage is important, but digging deeper can give you better tools. This gives choices but also incidental life, assisting in longevity and Life trigger strats. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Zombie Infestation Now this is an engine. Costs no mana to activate, makes a 2/2, and triggers the litany of discard effects while still giving you control. Free blockers at instant speed are great and have a relevant creature type.Needs 2 cards to work but otherwise 💯! #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Izzet Charm Charms are difficult cards to evaluate in a vacuum. The modes are often not even and almost always overcosted individually. This is one I have a hard time finding a home for, but it might work in spellslinger. Disruption, removal, selection. But is it enough? #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Meteor Storm Name? Banger. Art? Banger Flavor Text? Banger. Actual Card Text? Some of the worst abilities of all time. 2 cards and 4 mana is an insanely bad rate but random cards is just distressing. I suppose you could force it to work but why would you? #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Horizon of Progress Spending mana wins you many games in magic but in order spend mana you have to have sinks. Holding up removal is a lot less effective if you don’t have anything else to spend it on. This lets you turn excess mana into ramp. Great for non-Green decks! #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Cactus Preserve In the greater commander meta something that is a little disappointing is how few incentives there are for large mana cost commander. This is one of the few that I think is really impressive. A massive manland with sneaky reach that can crush and defend. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Fountainport What a multitool! All by itself this card make cards, mana, and blockers with a minimal investment. As always with land abilities it’s a bit over costed but having all the abilities together gives it incredible flexibility. Also I love fish tokens. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Ominous Cemetery Lands that can be used as removal late game are powerful tools to close out a game. It’s easy to forget the angel statue that you played turn 3 and is hidden in the lands but when your indestructible creature gets shuffled away you remember. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Fomori Vault Land At this point many decks have large numbers of artifact tokens or random artifacts that this can look 5-10 cards deep easily. Why run War Room when you can run this and really dig for a real answer in any deck that remotely cares about artifacts? #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Coalborn Entity Repeatable burn good. Scald tokens and planeswalkers. Discount activated abilities. Burn more. Fire. 🔥 #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Kraul Whipcracker At this point you can make a token copy of anything. This lets you dismantle at least one of them. Yeah mostly it will take out a soldier token but it makes an interesting edition to a cube where tokens have a lot of influence. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Perplexing Test Situational board wipes are the core of some of my favorite strategies, particularly in Blue. You get to pick what is best for you in the moment and at instant speed it opens up your opponents to Great Violence™️. Test your friends today! #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Hivespine Wolverine It’s buzzing with value! The choices this elemental offers are varied but it can ensure it does something. The fight mode might seem limited but being able to eat an offspring is no joke. On a bad day you get a counter. But every day you get bees! #mtg 🐝
Magic Card of the Day: Dogged Hunter Token creatures are larger and more threatening than ever. While tokens often come in swarms modern magic has made more and more tokens and copy tokens that are huge beaters. Might as well have a tool that kills them with little investment. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Meditate Skipping an entire turn seems like a brutal cost for just 4 cards but what if you weren’t there for that turn anyway? Combine with Teferi’s Protection to get 4 cards and another turn isolated in your bubble. You probably should get the table some snacks tho! #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Safeguard Targeted repeatable fogs of a single creature can be an effective deterrent but this one is a bit of a strech. 5 mana to start and 3 for each activation seems too expensive. But if the activation was discounted to W somehow…..maybe? #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Sandstorm May your token decks learn humility from Fog’s angry cousin. Also I heard from Darude that 1 toughness isn’t enough to survive in the club. It’s such a banger tho. www.youtube.com/watch?v=y612... #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Recover This is such a great card in limited as it’s often effectively Divination in Black. But lord does the original printing have the saddest art/Flavor text. One of things I think Invasion did better than March of the Machines is capture the tragedy of War. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Fireblast Alternative casting costs are often significantly powerful, but this is particularly high risk. 4 damage is just enough to be relevant in 20 life formats but in commander it’s much harder to viable. It’s still an iconic piece of burn an 0 mana is crazy value. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Tower Winder Honestly it often takes very little to spook folks into not attacking. This not only makes you unattractive to attack but often will grab one of the best lands in your deck to ensure your mana slithers into alignment. Also look at ‘em, ain’t he the cutest! #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Lolth, Spider Queen I love a Planeswalker with a unique play pattern. You can’t just click a button and move her towards her ultimate, you’ve got to finesse a bit to get value. The emblem isn’t even that powerful, but drawing and making bodies over and over is. #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Hundred-Handed One With its monstrous power unlocked this becomes and a good attacker and is tall enough to block fliers, unlike most other giants or Eldrazi. One note tho, if it’s one hand per blocker, it must have started with only one. Was it a left or a right? #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Fiendlash The offensive power of these damage mirroring effects should not be underestimated. Often a big creature can be mitigated, but while wearing the lash it becomes a threat that is central to the game. Add Pyrohemia and it’s game over. Whip it good! #mtg
Magic Card of the Day: Lilysplash Mentor With counters decks, sometimes you have to play out of sequence and a card doesn’t get the counters it deserves or needs. This lets you reset a creature with a little boost as well as retriggering the enters ability. Great with the Ozolith. #mtg
