Zelus and Mariah hold hands. Zelus looks up at Mariah, beaming, while Mariah has a surprised expression. They have the following conversation:  Zelus: “Mariah! Are you my mother?”

Mariah: “I…what brought up this question?”

Zelus: “Well, I played with some kids today and one of them got touchy and started crying for his mother…then everyone cried and I thought, well, I must have a mother to cry for too! You must be my mother, right? I could only think of you.”

A close up Mariah’s eye as her expression softens into something compassionate and melancholy.

Mariah is an old woman and dying in bed. At her side is Zelus, who reaches to hold her hand. The dialogue continues.   Mariah: “Well…if it makes you happy and you’re alright with it…”

Zelus stands at Mariah’s grave, his expression blank as he holds an incense stick for her funeral. Lucindus stands behind him stoically, his expression cut off from view.
