Having the word "president" in the new name for the former PBI airport is unnecessary and speaks to ego. Like the world doesn't know who and what he is.

Airports named after Presidents

There are a total of 13 airports named after a president. More than one quarter of all US Presidents have had an airport named after them. John F. Kennedy has two different airports named after him, resulting in 12 of the 45 presidents with eponymous airports. This includes both commercial airports offering regluar passenger service as well as other airports as shown below.

The fireworks and the presidential speech are back on in Washington. After evacuating the National Mall around 7 p.m. over forecasts of thunderstorms, organizers announced that the gates would reopen at 9:45 p.m. The president is expected to deliver his speech at 11 p.m. with fireworks to follow.

Dear Regal Theaters:

As a minister in the United Church of Christ, I am writing to Regal Theatres to demand that you immediately stop showing the war.gov promotional spot that appears before movies.

The video is a propaganda video. Nothing more, nothing less. While at Portland’s Regal Lloyd Center last night to watch Disclosure Day, our family was surprised that before the movie, we were forced to watch an advertisement touting the leadership of Donald Trump, Pete Hegseth, and the so-called Department of War.

It was like we were at a movie theater in Russia or North Korea. Democracies do not do this. The audience loudly booed.

We routinely see videos at Regal promoting careers in the military. This was not that.

This was an advertisement promoting the political views of Donald Trump. It was not promoting our military. It was not promoting America’s greatest strength: our diversity. This was a MAGA campaign commercial highlighting a fake cabinet agency, the Department of War, which is actually called the Defense Department, and the MAGA America First platform.

Regal’s decision to show this video can only be construed as an endorsement of Donald Trump, his failed war in Iran, and the white Christian nationalism advocated by Secretary Hegseth.

Again, I must demand that Regal stop showing this video immediately. Blessed are the peacemakers.

Just saw this in the plan. I took applied/took the civil service exam in April 1990 & received 100%. There was a hiring freeze. In FY1991 (Oct), I had an interview, took the psych exam & did the extras for the background checks (updates & fingerprints) on a single day w/75 others. 1/

Every time she slipped her phone into her jeans pocket, the same thing happened.

Half of it stuck out. The wallet wouldn't fit at all. Even her hand barely made it past her knuckles.

For years, women thought they were imagining it. That maybe they were just buying the wrong brands. Or that their phones were too big.

Then in 2018, two journalists decided to measure the truth.
Jan Diehm and Amber Thomas walked into malls across Nashville, New York, and Seattle with one mission. They pulled out measuring tapes and examined 80 pairs of jeans from 20 major brands.

Every pair had the same waistband size. Thirty-two inches. Made to fit the same size person.

What they found confirmed what women already knew.

Women's front pockets were 48 percent shorter than men's. And 6.5 percent narrower.

The numbers told a frustrating story. Only 40 percent of women's pockets could fit an iPhone. Less than half could hold a standard wallet. And only 10 percent of women could slide their entire hand inside their front pocket.

Meanwhile, 100 percent of men's pockets handled both phones and hands with room to spare.

The researchers published their findings with charts and measurements. The data went further than anyone expected. Women's pockets averaged just 5.6 inches deep. Men's measured 9.1 inches.

Almost half the depth. For the same size pants.

A friend of mine brought up the Tennessee redistricting & made an excellent point. Not only did they dilute the Black vote, they also diluted rural votes by splitting the urban district. The new districts are half urban/half rural; where do you think those reps will focus their attention?

It's occurred to me that much of AI's behavior patterns are those the tech bros (and a certain orange one) think they deserve as treatment. Propping up egos and pushing agendas, regardless of whether those agendas are harmful, are more important than accuracy and benefiting humanity.

Yesterday Spirit Airlines shut down. Immediately. Seventeen thousand people lost their jobs without notice. Pilots learned mid-flight. Flight attendants learned from passengers checking their phones. Gate agents found out when the gates went dark. There was no announcement to the workforce, no severance plan, no town hall, no warning. The company kept its silence until the doors closed.

Before the announcement was an hour old, the jokes started. Frontier should be next. The brawl videos are over. Where will we get our memes now.

Then the question: which airline do their customers start flying on next. The replies agreed it was a serious problem. “Maybe we should have subsidized Spirit just to keep them contained.” “Some call it culture.” “Maybe they can keep their chaos at home.” “Everyone involved should go on the no fly list.”

This may be the most important thing I’ve ever written.

At 1:04 p.m. this afternoon, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stepped behind the podium in the briefing room, just days after telling reporters that Friday would be her last press conference before stepping away for maternity leave. Yet instead of leaving, she came back. She told the room she felt it was too important not to be there, and then she launched into one of the most dangerous performances our country has ever seen come out of that room.

And within minutes, it became clear this wasn’t a press conference about a shooting as the White House claimed it would be. It was about defining this administration’s next moves. Telling the country that criticism of the president is no longer just disagreement, but something more dangerous and potentially criminal. That the people speaking out against Donald Trump and his regime are not just wrong, but responsible for the violence in our country and subject to consequences for it, saying it in plain language: “This political violence stems from a systemic demonization of him and his supporters by commentators, by elected members of the Democrat Party, and even some in the media.” And then going even further: “Much of the manifesto of the would-be assassin is indistinguishable from the words that we hear daily from so many.”

Karoline Leavitt had already started her maternity leave. She had already said goodbye. And then the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner gave her, and the entire Trump administration,

And once again, you could see the bruises on his hand that they attempted to cover with makeup, if you looked closely. And again, this could be a non-issue if there were actually transparency in the White House. We are at war. We are struggling with inflation and affordability. The president keeps attacking foreign countries and threatening to attack more. The entire world has been destabilized.

Yet what we see with our own eyes is a nearly 80-year-old man who has gloated that his favorite meal is fast food burgers, who says he takes more aspirin than his doctor recommends, who has recurring bruises on his hands, and who can’t stay awake during events he knows will be captured on camera.

And none of those things are even the biggest issue. The real issue is the cover-up. We can see it with our own eyes, right in front of us, what is happening, and we are told there is nothing there. In fact, we’ve been told the opposite. That he is in excellent health, both physically and mentally. That he is “one of the healthiest presidents ever.”

That is the architecture of every authoritarian regime: manufacture the lie, repeat it with confidence, and dare the public to trust what they can plainly see.

He is in the fifth grade when they stop asking him to read full books.

The teacher calls it differentiated instruction, shorter passages and leveled texts, a system in which nobody falls behind because nobody is asked to go very far. He is not struggling. He is being managed. There is a difference, but no one explains it to him, and he is ten, so he does not ask.

A girl in his class reads Charlotte’s Web and takes a ten-question quiz on a computer. She earns fourteen points. The points go on a leaderboard. At the end of the semester the children with the most points get a pizza party. The quiz replaces the conversation. The dashboard shows green.

By high school he reads at a table of contents, chapter titles and summaries and SparkNotes, gets the grade, gets the diploma, shakes a hand in a gymnasium while his family cheers.

His mother gets home at 7:30. She has been on her feet since before dawn. She is not a strong reader herself, nobody caught it, she learned to work around it the way you learn to favor a bad knee. She signs the reading log without asking what was read. The form requires a signature, not a conversation.

Forty-three now, sitting at a kitchen table with a form in his hand. The words are there. The meaning keeps moving. He reads the first sentence again. A third time. He knows what the form is for. He cannot fully parse what it is saying.
