Yarn Spinner
@yarnspinner
The friendly tool for game dialogue! Now in Unity, Godot, Unreal Engine + more! Made by best mates from way down under, who've worked on games from Night in the Woods to Demonschool 💚🖖🌱 • Human-Made
turns out the godot animation system lets you set any blending factors you like
Love to watch new gamedev content and just come across surprise compliments 💚 (KO_OP's talk at NarraScope) youtu.be/NHvPRd9PvxQ
Today is International Non-Binary People's Day and the Nonbinary Coded Games showcase on Steam is running to celebrate! 💛🤍💜 It includes a bunch of Yarn Spinner-powered games (here's just a few!), and there's no time like the present to buy/support/play them! 👇 store.steampowered.com/curator/4610...
you know yarn spinner is ready for AAA content when we have a special high-poly version of our "you can talk to this character" indicator, Powered By Unreal Engine 5
Implementing the Yarn Spinner sample scenes in Unreal Engine is coming along nicely. Pretty funny to suddenly get these familiar scenes with built-in motion blur, though.
oh hey, Scarlet Deer Inn got a release date (and it's soon!) This husband-and-wife team made REAL EMBROIDERED CHARACTERS for the game, made the music with real traditional instruments, and more. So many little labours of love in this one game 💚 store.steampowered.com/app/1553260/...
Just some features... * sidebar shows nodes, and you can right click things to do things! * you can add line tags! * there are new commands in the command palette! * you can dim line tags or hide them entirely! * you can inspect and edit variables during play! (needs "Experimental Features" on)
Lots of new features in the "pre-release" channel of our VSCode Extension, on both the VSCode Marketplace and OpenVSX! Take a look and let us know how you get on?
Once you've got a recording, drop it back into the tool, and we'll identify the regions of spoken voice. Link regions to your written lines, and export all of your audio at once, all with the right file names, ready for use in-game!
When you're recording, tell the tool which character's lines you're getting, and we'll highlight the ones your actor should perform. All of the lines are still visible, so your actor has all the context they need.
Our voiceover tool (name TBD, give us ideas!) takes your Yarn Spinner project and produces an end-to-end script that's easy for your actors to read through. Add delivery notes to ensure you get the perfect take.
Something we've got cooking behind the scenes: lots of folks use Yarn Spinner for voice-acted games, and we're building tools for managing the entire VO process, from prep to recording to editing.
We're almost there getting all the Yarn Spinner for Unity Samples into Yarn Spinner for Godot!
the Yarn Spinner staff always make sure they eagerly report to work on time
You say that, but she'd just let you do it. You've be trying to make off with the loot, and Ruby would be busy upside-down giving you the "come hither" eyes for a belly rub...
the Yarn Spinner office also features a tiny wolf on security duty, in addition to the small observing wolf
Steam Next Fest is on, and a bunch of hugely anticipated Yarn Spinner games have demos available! Check them all out! That's an order!
Yarn Spinner literally SHOWN in Day of the Devs via "Prove You're Human" by @sunsetvisitor.studio! 😍 www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJJ5...
A huge number of upcoming games powered by Yarn Spinner are featured in showcases this weekend! Every single one of these has a demo available right now, so go check them out! We'll highlight more over the coming week, too!
Our engine survey is always interesting 👀 still time to contribute (on Discord).
In Yarn Spinner+, we’ve added two new dialogue presenters: Snaaake, and Classic RPG! These featureful, ready-to-go presenters are great for adapting into your game, or using as-is! Learn more on the site: yarnspinner.dev/install/#uni...
Thanks for @tanamakes.games and @deadteapot.games for this surprise we found in the mailbox at the Yarn Spinner International Corporate HQ this week!
We were looking at doing a "let's recreate a dialogue presenter from another game" thing, and we got a bit distracted, because we're huge nerds.
did you know the Yarn Spinner editor works whichever way your brain does? sketch out all your dialogue nodes first and write into them later, or write a pile of dialogue and drag it into shape after. both are good. both are very fun. here, look.
Max Force, Secret Agent, doesn't let a brief interruption get in the way of their over-dramatic exposition, and gets right back to what they were saying.
We like to put our academic backgrounds to use when designing a cool new feature in Yarn Spinner. (Also: congrats to Gravano and Hirschberg, winners of the 'oh wow you wrote all of the papers on the subject, huh' award)
