Regular ol’ middle-aged Midwestern mom: Vegetarian. Heart attack survivor. I was dead-ish for about five minutes. Tongue-tied. No middle name. Ate fire once. She/her. That about covers it.
My neighbor gave me a peony plant at the end of the summer last year and I wasn’t expecting it to do much yet, but it has offered up this beautiful bloom with a second on the way.
I haven’t read the story yet, but I nonetheless feel confident in sharing this meme.
My husband and made a two-hour-round trip drive Monday evening in a fruitless attempt to buy a used minivan, which was a total bummer, but I did manage to take a @ruralindexing.bsky.social tribute pic of Hinkle’s Marengo Hardware in Marengo, OH, so all was not lost.
This is the time of year where I am reminded of what the world lost when Manischewitz discontinued its White Grape Matzo. 😭
This is my car. I get fewer honks than you might expect, but it brings me a jolt of joy when it happens. I’ve got a few more to add when it warms up.
“Mama. Look what I found in my room. And I know they’re yours. And they say the F-word. Twice.”—My 8-year-old Oops.
I know it is small in comparison to the hell that is our political landscape, but this winter weather is breaking me. It’s been too cold for anything to melt, and now my weather app is predicting snow tomorrow and several days of “wintry mix” precipitation starting Wednesday. I need respite. 🥶
True. Timing being everything, I got this text from our neighbors today about a cat on my porch (a frequent visitor). I’m glad that Joe’s people are at least easy to get in touch with. All I know is the cat’s name and that her home is somewhere on Weber.
Omg, I also got this ad last night! Screenshotted that cover and some other favorites.
Thinking of making a T-shirt purchase to lovingly needle my employer/pay tribute to my alma mater, Ohio University, when what should appear in the @raygunsite.com product listing but none other than @benlelandoh.bsky.social. O-H …
Palate cleanser: My kid insisted on showing his college-age swim instructors his LEGO minifig costume. (Not pictured: Him waving to everyone he saw on the walk to and from class—a one child Halloween parade.)
I own a different version of this one, a port-a-potty play set that includes a construction worker with his own newspaper to read while he relieves himself.
I love Playmobil’s extremely specific characters and designs. Like, a firefighter performing a snake rescue—sure, why not!
I used to rent this from our neighborhood video store. The trivia questions got real repetitive, real quick.
Channeled my middle-aged Midwestern mom-hood today by pulling out a classic potluck dessert: The fruit pizza. The toppings on this bad boy included sliced golden mango from Mexico.
A waterlogged but impassioned crowd here for #handsoff in Columbus, Ohio
Golly, Kim Deal is good. Caught her on the second night of her tour of the U.S. and Europe. I have loved her music since first discovering the Breeders as a teen, and her new songs—from her first-ever solo album—are beautiful and timely. 😍
