I've been out of the snorkel game too long

A family of four in swimsuits and strange-looking mask-snorkel combo units. Their eyes suggest they are smiling. The caption reads Share Your Happiness With Your Family. They look to the untrained eye like a bunch of real freaks.

A lightly built Bothwell player marks between two hefty opponents as a teammate roves for spillage. Woodsdale are wearing pink socks for Ladies Day, there is some pink in the crowd too. The light is a very low angle, classic Tasmanian midlands midwinter. I'd call it painfully crisp.

Woodsdale player seems to have judged the ball better and is about to mark. The warmly-dressed crowd are absorbed; one small bespectacled boy has paused mid-doughnut to gape at the action. Hard to tell from the photo gallery but the Rabbits slew the Lions. Bothwell 26.17.123 d Woodsdale 2.5.17

It’s all of these, probably, but Bondy reveals another aspect of this urban biome that’s worth paying attention to. Within walking distance of the stadium where Mbappé became a footballer, amid the discount home goods stores and the drab prefabricated apartment blocks and the many football fields, you will find a whimsical public housing development whose cylindrical towers are all clad in brightly glazed tile; a swooping Oscar Niemeyer-designed Brutalist masterpiece that serves as the local bourse du travail, a center for mutual aid and worker organization; and a public swimming center named after Belgian singer Jacques Brel. Nothing better captures the constraining promise of the French banlieue, its strange power as a laboratory of footballing talent, than this one square mile grid of monotony, amenity, solidarity, and ambition.

Belgian Football Association's appeal rejected: American striker Balogun will be allowed to play.
FIFA has rejected the appeal lodged by the Belgian Football Association against the decision that American striker Folarin Balogun will be allowed to play. The appeal has been declared inadmissible, according to a statement from FIFA. "It follows that the decision is fully confirmed," the document states. Further details regarding the reasons for the inadmissibility have not been made public.

Furthermore, the Belgian Football Association must pay the costs of the proceedings, which amount to 1,000 dollars.

The appeal procedure was handled by Salman Al-Ansari, a Qatari member of FIFA's Disciplinary Committee. That he is leaving his colleagues' decision intact is not unexpected. The chances of success in the appeal procedure were considered low in the Belgian camp. The KBVB only learned on Monday morning that an ad hoc appeal option was being introduced.

We've traded in the Subaru Outback for this. I'm still working it out; I tried to indicate left and instead brandished a fiery sword of vengeance and released a swan(?)

The representation was created around 1604 and was published in the Speculum sophicum Rhodostauroticum by Theophilus Schweighart. At the center of the picture is a wheeled, fortress-like building. Look at the picture from the OCCIDENS, i.e. from the west. The lower image caption provides us with an indication of this (it is difficult to recognize here in the picture). The entrance to this building, which is directly revealed to the viewer, is marked by a lettering. Above the archway you can read "VENITE DIGNI" ("COME HERE, WORTHY"). To the right of the archway you can see a cross and to the left a rose. Directly below the entrance you can read the word "MOVEAMVR" spread over two lines. Above the archway there are two windows along which the lettering "IESVS NOBIS OMNIA" ("JESUS [IS] EVERYTHING FOR US") runs along. It therefore becomes clear that, in addition to all the many other symbolic representations, it could be a rose cruiserical representation. The cross and rose can be clearly identified, but not presented united, as in today's form.

There's a heavy frost on the south-facing side of our valley this morning. I pulled up the blinds to see someone about 300m away, on the steepest street; inching up towards their driveway on their hands and knees. They finally made it, stood up and hobbled into their house. #drama

A house on a very steep street. The mossy tarmac footpath has a handrail. This is not the house in the story but it's on this part of the street.

This very naturally led of a discussion of the legal ramifications ie rugby players nicking cars, pies, cans of Fanta and acting like big stupid idiots; but society has to accept that we are to blame: for loving rugby league. It was very funny. The arc of it was incredible. Who else could do this?

I don't want that, nobody wants to see that. So you've got to genuinely, you've got to be genuinely disadvantaged by rugby league. Now how you prove that, I suppose you can prove it medically, but you don't, we don't want people banging it on.

Does the law have to change?

Well, yes.

Because some people.

Well the law is going to have to be very, very sympathetic and say, all right, what do you, rugby league player? All right, did you have the test? I did.

And did you have the, that particular, do you know? I did.

Yeah.

Okay. And what have you done? I nicked a car.

Right.

ROY …we’ve got to appreciate that really concussion is what I'd call an existential threat to the game of rugby league.

HG. It is.

Everyone, I think, realizes that. Some more than others. Concussion can cause what's called chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

That's right. CTE, I think they call it. Yes.

Now, that's where the brain structure is sort of altered, causing depression, mood swings or dementia and risk of suicide, et cetera, et cetera. Now, there's a gene marker that indicates a high risk of chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Now, it's called the APOE genotype, and there's a simple test that costs about 100 bucks that will give players the information about the risks involved in their continuation or playing of rugby league or other sports that involved the possibility of head injuries.

So if you know that you've got this genotype, this APOE genotype, then you run the risk of doing yourself injury. It means that if in the normal living, you might get dementia at the age of 65 or 70, it could be accelerated by having concussions so that you start to show symptoms of dementia around 35 or 40.

Right.

But at least players then will be informed. If you know you have that DNA, you have that...

Questions, a lot of questions. Common in the community? Hard to know.

Right. And the other thing is, is this something that Rugby League has, I don't mean cause, but has encouraged researchers to go to...

No, no, no. I don't think Rugby League has reached out at all to various academic institutions who are examining and trying to look seriously at this sort of business. But I would have thought that it would be in the interests of every Rugby League player to have this test, to see whether they have the genetic predisposition towards getting Alzheimer's from a knock on the head.

They printed so many Fitzroy cards in 1976. I think sunshine fell asleep with the press running. From a normal 8yo's life of collecting at school I have 8x Ian Millers, 8x Ray Saults and 8x Warwick Irwins.
