teacher edu/antiracism/abolition/arts-based methods. asst prof of edu in nyc. also, libraries!
just stumbled upon one of my former 5th grader's essays on gun control...
I have a new article out that I coauthored with two really thoughtful Black facilitators who support teachers in understanding racism, cultural responsivity, restorative justice in schools… their generosity, graciousness, boundaries, etc. were really noteworthy and I admire them! #edusky
A young Brooklynite testifying at city hall this morning asking the finance committee to devote 0.5% to NYC’s libraries. Now back to school! @nycplan.org
T-10 days until the Public Library Art and Propaganda Fair here in NYC www.eventbrite.com/e/public-lib...
Turned 5 and got his first library card! He’s been using mine since birth, but I’ve held off on the kids getting their own until they were old enough to remember it being a *moment*! He is THRILLED! @bklynlibrary.bsky.social
Tonight I hosted an arts event for 160 people at the kids’ school. I either want to sit in silence for a week or cry from exhaustion/joy. Maybe I will do both!
RALLY FOR NYC'S LIBRARIES Tuesday, May 26th @ 10:30am City Hall See you there? @nycplan.org
CHANGE! The public testimony for libraries will not take place 5/26 - it is taking place on 6/10 at 9:30am.
Installed my new Little Free Library this past week and it’s the perfect place for a reminder that despite the media’s skewed framing, @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social is still $97 million dollars short of his campaign promise of 0.5% for libraries.
folks seem jazzed about yesterday's libraries exec budget news. HOWEVER, we at @nycplan.org are not thrilled. it is still 97 million dollars short on @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social's campaign promise... 0.5% for libraries. he only restored the cut HE made in Jan. budget is basically the same as last yr
was obsessed with the posters/artwork at my first visit to @psc-cuny.org’s union hall
prompt: what do you want people in your life to do when you've caused harm or made a mistake? 8 year old:
"life is to share" and "tax the rich" - these 6 and 7 year olds GET it. it's so much work 🫠, but i love my afternoons with the social justice art club in brooklyn.
today I visited a school for their “phenomenal woman” day for women’s history month. sooo fun! talked to the kids about higher edu and community organizing. they tried on my doctoral gown and are going to write letters to their council person to echo @nycplan.org’s 0.5% for libraries demand.
5 days until the libraries subcommittee at city council. don't forget that you can submit testimony online here (or testify in person/over zoom!): council.nyc.gov/testify/
not all the kids had answered yet, but resounding win for the library from the 4 year olds in pre-k this am! #libsky
💕♥️ Last week we had a Know Your Rights table at the Friendship Ball at the kids’ school. We gave out zines, whistles, and started collecting names of those we can turn to if ICE shows up. Some kids also made a Migration is Beautiful mural! ♥️💕 Art credit to Favianna! favianna.com/resources/gu...
A disappointing start to the 2027 budget negotiation process, but thankfully we’ve got @nycplan.org ready to push back. Get activated and call your city councilmember plz and thank you
This morning I’m giving a virtual talk at the University of Lomé in Togo. Excited to talk about normality as a social construct, inclusion, and universal design for learning!
merry christmas to me, a steward of a new @littlefreelibrary.bsky.social !
