I’m a Daily Newser (Deputy Sports Editor). Proud U of Denver alum. Born in Germany, raised in Colorado and now call New York’s Hudson Valley home.
Fun time at the Gotham FC game last night. Great atmosphere and a fun, feisty game. Fireworks both during and after the game. The attacking power of this Gotham team is impressive.
Just dawned on me: Sarah and I have both witnessed a Spain World Cup triumph in person. Sarah was in Sydney at Stadium Australia as Spain beat England, 1-0, in the 2023 Women's World Cup. I was in New Jersey at MetLife Stadium on Sunday as Spain beat Argentina, 1-0, in the 2026 Men's World Cup.
A few of us wrote about our most memorable moments from covering these World Cup games at MetLife Stadium this last month in today’s @nydailynews.com … and of course my memories take me back to DU and hockey. The press box at the old DU Arena was a great place to grow up.
Great looking End Zone in Sunday’s @nydailynews.com … had a blast writing this piece about our World Cup adventure. Been doing this for 20-plus years, but still get a (free) kick out of seeing my words in the print edition.
My first World Cup story for this edition of the tournament is a preview of the German national team. Germany 🇩🇪 has been a disappointment in recent WC campaigns, does that change here in North America? @nydailynews.com
Went out to MetLife Stadium this morning to pick up my media credentials for the World Cup. A lot of activity at the Meadowlands just a week out from the start of the tournament.
This is Julian Garcia’s last masterpiece on the back page for the Daily News. He was the latest in a long line of caretakers for this New York City institution. He earned the right to be considered one of the greats with wordplay like this over the years. A sad day for the DN sports team. 👏
Starting to get pumped for the DU-Wisconsin game tomorrow. Here is a look back at when I was covering the team for the student newspaper and we opened the season vs. the Badgers. They got the best of us then, but it was one of the great rivalries of WCHA days. Hoping for a better outcome in Vegas.
Heading to Opening Day with the Yankees today … what are you planning to eat?
Rewinding back to my high school days for this April Fools’ Day edition of the Green Mountain HS RamPage. Busted our top academic star using mental steroids. The article was a blast to write, but the picture took it to a new level.
Today’s @nydailynews back page as St. John’s “blows through Kansas” to send the Johnnies to the Sweet 16. From the skilled hands of our legendary “Back Page Guy” Will Pakutka.
Ahead of tonight's NCHC conference title game between DU and Duluth, here is a look back at arguably one of the most-hyped games in the history of DU Arena. Each team was No. 1 in one of the polls. Duluth had a kid named Brett Hull. "Brett Who?" asked the DU students up in the Bleachers.
This is how the @denverpost covered University of Denver hockey the last time DU hosted a conference tournament final on campus. This was the 1985-86 WCHA championship (2 games, total goals) series against the Minnesota Gophers at DU Arena. … DU hosts the @thenchc.bsky.social title game Saturday.
Very cool to experience the sun going down over the slopes yesterday at Thunder Ridge and then enjoy some night skiing. “Life is a Mountain” …
Everyone remembers the classic @nydailynews.com cover from the Miracle on Ice, but here is a look at one of the interior spreads from that newspaper.
Today’s @nydailynews.com back page after a thrilling day of Olympics action …
Another flashback to that first pilgrimage (2013) to the magical town of Lake Placid in the Adirondacks of New York State that has twice hosted the Winter Olympics. A living history museum of the Games.
13 years ago today we took our first trip to Lake Placid. Obviously, the Miracle on Ice is a top memory and it was amazing to tour the hockey rink, but also extremely cool to see the oval where Eric Heiden accomplished his historic feat back at the 1980 Games.
Beacon Falls on this Wednesday morning as we start to emerge from this deep freeze here in the Hudson Valley.
My Broncos-themed week continues … Growing up in Denver we were fortunate to have one of the greatest sports cartoonists in our city. So to have a personalized Drew Litton drawing of one of the most iconic moments in Denver sports history is very special.
Ahead of SB XLVIII the @nydailynews.com allowed me to write the Broncos "homer" column for our preview section ahead of the big game at MetLife. Looking back, the column was pretty laughable considering what happened. But I did get to jump into the DN photo studio and take an embarrassing photo ...
Tossing it back to my favorite Broncos-Patriots AFC title game … 2014 when I flew home to Denver to take my Pops to the big game at Mile High.
First ski day of the season was a visit to Belleayre Mtn. First time here. Won’t be the last. A really fun mountain.
The 104-year-old WWII veteran who performed the national anthem on his sax at a recent Islanders game was in the 95th Infantry Division just like my grandfather. How cool is that? I know there were some 14,000 of them … but still. Amazing story.
Special afternoon yesterday out at the Wildpark Stadium here in Karlsruhe for a 2nd Bundesliga game: KSC vs. Paderborn. Not a great result for the locals, but the atmosphere in the new stadium is amazing to witness.
