Birthright citizenship stands. The Supreme Court affirmed what the Constitution has promised for more than 150 years: children born in the United States are citizens, no matter who is president. No president gets to decide who belongs. The Constitution does.

In the decision, the court warned that the government had “knowingly trampled on the privacy rights of American citizens in a manner that threatens the sacred right to vote.” This ruling is a major step toward protecting voters from unlawful purges, but the case continues.
