I make 1s and 0s as a technical product manager and software engineer. I used to (and still do!) write words. Once caught a level 21 Pikachu, it was awesome. Minneapolis. Consultant. Ex: Blizzard, Penske, AOL All opinions are mine.
First episode of Bourdain's No Reservations: Anytime you hear the word "purity" come up too often in conversation, the sound of jackboots can't be far behind. Just... wow. We had to pause it for a minute just to let the sheer weight of that prescience sink in.
Alright... new King of the Hill has a Jurassic Bark episode. Going to get it out of the way. Let's do it. After? Weed.
Yay! Email and self-hosted push notifications working from my homelab to the public internet. The notification setup was an oddly complex task at the end of the day. Troubleshooting isn’t straightforward.
On the verge of switching to nvim... I *really* like VS Code, especially my ability to modify it exactly. But nvim feels more, pure? I was a vim/emacs kid in college, so this is a return to form in a way. neovim + tmux + repo with my dot files is a really great multi-system setup.
Been trying out Claude more, and it's interesting in that this is the "right" answer, but is also the most obvious that anyone who has done linux setup with xdotool would know where to go instantly. Again, AI is just parroting "jr engineer" -- which isn't bad, but it's not revolutionary.
This link to a safe online tool to verify information you probably only do a couple times a year, if that, is really great. Wonderful use of good dev tech best practices.
Got to be in the presence of a rosary that belonged to Jim Lovell that was with him on Apollo 13. It’s in the private (and well cared for) collection in an upstate NY convent. Really cool just to sit and look at it. History at my fingertips. The kids had no idea why a few grownups were in awe.
Old libraries in small towns are cool. Nice collection of Xbox 360 games, too. Vintage now? It’s in really good condition.
Front of the boat for Maid of the Mist. Kiddo did so good!! I was expecting a meltdown, he’s not a fan of rain. But he loved it. ❤️
Being able to consistently play Progenitus is all kinds of fun for me. A known card, but rarely used/seen. It's fun to play it! I'm also ~55% win rate on the deck now after some learnings. Just miiiiight try to hit mythic this month.
To anyone who says Magic The Gathering is a serious card game... I present to you this. He conceded, I won. (not a bad thing it's not serious fwiw)
I love that this works. Mac OS 9.2 on a 23-year old Mac PPC connected via ssh to a modern Linux desktop, editing code I’m actively working on every day. And it’s responsive. This feels like it shouldn’t work. But does.
Time to learn a new MTG deck... Haven't ever played a 4-color standard before, always been a bit intimidated. Might just be because "back in the day" they were impossible to play well (imo).
There are now a total of three posts to the #MacsBug hashtag, and that’s a damn shame. This debugger was my gateway drug into low level software engineering. bsky.app/hashtag/Macs...
