Recovering people pleaser. I take pictures of birds. she/her My Posts: pfp: a 52 year old lady with short hair banner: a Cedar Waxwing in a serviceberry tree
A bluebird building a nest surrounded by a wildflower garden?! The needle on the whimsy scale is approaching idyllic!
Our chicken coop is large. When my husband built it 2020, he made it big, and then later added another room behind it. The attached and enclosed run is large and the chickens can let themselves in and out of the coop into it. Little doors inside the run open to let them into the sunflower garden.
I was watering out back when this beauty jumped out of a large pot. The internet tells me it’s a Pickerel Frog. I think they’re quite handsome. Before I came inside I told it to try not to get eaten by the resident Garter snake, Gert.
And here’s an update on how much more lush the entire wildflower garden has grown. 💖
New wildflower in the wildflower garden! 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘢 𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘦𝘯𝘢, or Farewell to Spring. It’s so pretty!
New wildflower in the wildflower garden has dropped. I didn’t know it and had to look it up: Tidy Tips. I love her.
The acct @ elitegrifters has popped up and its main beef is poor ppl having nice things and I went ahead and blocked it because here’s the thing: it’s a small account right now but everyone who engages with it is giving oxygen to its flame. Think of the block button as your fingers snuffing it out.
I’m not sure if this is the same Garter snake I observed eating a toad a few weeks ago but I surprised it as I was coming towards our back steps and it slithered under my giant Oak Leaf Hydrangea. So I sat down and waited to see if it would return and sure enough, it poked its head back out. I 💚 it.
I tried to share this the proper way but it’s not working so a screenshot will have to do. Don’t let the mediocre score on IMDB put you off from watching this film. Bit is a solid vampire flick with good social commentary and just an all around enjoyable watch.
I was pulling into my driveway when I saw a Garter snake pursuing a toad. My camera was with me so jumped out and began taking pics. The snake eventually caught the toad and I observed the entire process, photographing it all. I have too much respect for the experience to give this a funny caption.
This morning I stopped at a bit of a birding hot spot I’ve found and almost immediately this Indigo Bunting showed up. They usually sing from high up in the trees but this one was low and soon I also saw a female. I believe they were guarding a nest. I didn’t stay long in order not to stress them. 🪶
This female American Redstart put on quite a show for a crowd of birders at Magee Marsh a couple of weeks ago. She flitted from perch to perch, and gave us one pose after another. A sweet little diva who knew she had an audience. 🪶
One more Cedar Waxwing pic for all you Waxwing heads out there. I know the bird is somewhat in shadow in this one, but it looks so coy, and so stinking cute that I had to share!
For a couple of weeks each spring, I have the opportunity to watch the Cedar Waxwings descend upon the serviceberry tree in my yard and gorge themselves on the fruit. Other birds enjoy it too, but the Waxwings are special because they only visit when the fruit is ready. A fleeting, magical moment. 🪶
For the past few weeks we had so much rain and all I could do was watch out the window, unable to be outside taking pics of the Cedar Waxwings eating the fruit in the serviceberry tree, knowing that when it’s gone, so too will they. Finally, this week we had sunny days and I was able to take pics! 🪶
I was watching the Cedar Waxwings in the serviceberry tree this week (pics will be forthcoming) when I saw this Red-eyed Vireo just appear in the tree, too. It isn’t a bird I often see without having to track it down so it was a delightful moment, and I got a pic of it snagging a caterpillar(?). 🪶
It’s late and I’m a little high but I wanted to tell you I saw a Yellow-billed Cuckoo today. I have only seen one maybe three times, including today. At first I didn’t know what I was looking at, and then I saw that bill! It was moving in slow-motion and was telepathically screaming DONT LOOK AT ME!
We had a conversation. Ok, I did all of the talking, but I swear they were listening.
Black and White Warblers like this female are somewhat unique from other warblers in that they move more like a nuthatch as they forage for insects, creeping along branches and trunks rather than flitting from place to place. Males have a black ear patch and a black throat patch. Such a cute bird! 🪶
