I mean… (since I can’t get the alt-text to work: fresh NYT online headline, Nearly 160 Troops Fall Ill at Base After Hegseth Makes Flu Vaccine Optional”
Thanks for running this story in October 2024, NYT, so we could all see the coming threat. Wait…I am being handed a note.
It will always break my heart to see Warren looking so approving of Platner (no matter what positive larger goals she thinks she’s serving by promoting him). And I’m not alone.
Despite being vaccinated, kid + I had the flu for two weeks, and it sucked so much. So for the last couple of days of Hanukkah, I got myself some small presents that really bring joy, like a fancy notebook, a remainder book, and these adorable (and functional) chip clips. 10/10, would recommend.
Does the NYT explode, Speed-style, if they use the word "racist"? What does the word even MEAN if you can't use it about Marge Schott, who openly referred to Ozzie Smith as "my million-dollar [n-word]"?
It's cool (derogatory) that every NYT article about virus outbreaks in the Global South informs us that there is a vaccine, but it's only given to white people traveling TO the Global South. @gregggonsalves.bsky.social
The bottom row of this chart has the Lakewood, NJ, election results for the 2024 presidential election:
Well, it's been a tough week, and it's almost Shabbat, so I'll just quickly glance at the front page of the online New York Ti—WHAT IS THIS PRAVDA-LEVEL HORSESHIT?
"Theologian who argued for the poor" should be redundant, like "tall NBA player," but I am a historian of early modern religion, and after grad school I realized that the 20th-century German theologians I'd read were all Nazis. So, more of doing theology right and less of being Nazis! RIP, WB.
@slate.com doesn't yet know that you do NOT, in any way, have to hand it to RFKJ. Glad my Plus subscription will end next month.
If you're running out of people to yell at, THIS milquetoast bs is what Khalil's Congressperson put out.
Elsewhere, The Forward, grasping the seriousness of this situation, actually uses this headline, for real:
The answer is yes and no: They tested negative for "common hemorrhagic fever diseases such as Ebola and Marburg" (which to me sounds like they tested for hantavirus, too) but also say they need more laboratory testing, so they may not have the resources to do every test they want.
This pull quote is so awful: "like you would do in a school shooting," says this 6th grader.
I am verklempt. It was such a pleasure to work with Noa, & I’m grateful for my part in getting the translation of this vital book out into the world. #AmEditing
