Britain has entered a new climate reality, and the Government hasn't grasped it. Last week I led a debate on extreme heat and the cross-government action needed to protect us. Here's some of what I said.

The climate emergency isn't a talking point. It's happening right now. Farmers are watching harvests fail, families are facing hosepipe bans, and our infrastructure is crumbling under record heat.

It's hard to tell if meat or dairy comes from an animal raised indoors on a factory farm or in a genuinely higher-welfare system. That's not an accident. It's a labelling gap. Nearly 80% of the British public want mandatory method-of-production labels on all animal products sold in supermarkets.

I'm in Weybread, where residents have come together to oppose a mega egg incubator. This huge industrial unit would bring a big increase in traffic and heavy lorries coming into a small village that just isn't built for it.

I've signed the Repair and Reuse Declaration. The UK is the second-highest producer of electronic waste per person in the world. Too many of us are stuck throwing away and rebuying electronics because they're not built to last. Repair and reuse should be easy and affordable.

We know that climate adaptation has been the poor cousin of Government policy for too long, despite the threats to life. Ed Miliband acknowledges this. The new Prime Minister must put this front and centre.

I recently met with East Suffolk Travel Association (ESTA) to talk about rail and bus services in and around Halesworth. We discussed the success of the hourly service on the East Suffolk railway line, and I agreed to support the lobbying for a direct service to London.

Almost two-thirds of dentists who claim to take on new NHS patients aren't actually doing so. One practice in the East of England has a waiting list 25 pages long. NHS dentistry is broken, and the Government needs to fund it properly.

I visited Camp Beagle in Huntingdon, where beagles are bred and kept in tiny cages. They have no access to outdoor space and are subjected to cruel experiments. These outdated practices must end and be replaced by modern, reliable methods.

Lovely to be at the Norfolk Show yesterday meeting local farming organisations, businesses, charities and community leaders. Agriculture is at the heart of Norfolk's communities and economy. It’s always valuable to hear about the opportunities and challenges facing the sector.

This week, farmers, food campaigners and food security experts held a funeral for the food system. The commercialisation of our food system and the power of supermarkets have put our food security at risk. We need concrete steps to support a resilient system.

Which Andy Burnham turns up to Downing Street is crucial. I really hope it's the non-tribal mayor who listens across party lines and thinks long-term (and not the Iraq War and PFI-backer)

It was great to meet with Suffolk Family Carers last week to mark National Carers Week and hear from local carers in Waveney Valley about their experiences and the wider challenges family carers face. I will continue to campaign in Parliament for the support and investment carers deserve.

This week I sponsored a debate in Parliament to draw urgent attention to the dire state of NHS dentistry – something that is particularly acutely felt in Waveney Valley. We need firm solutions for the crisis in funding, training and access.

I very much agree with the need for urgent action to protect young people’s wellbeing online. But it is also key that the government ensures vulnerable young people still have access to the support networks they need.

Good to meet with Norwich Friends of Earth and support their call for a new ‘Business, Human Rights and Environment Act’. This legislation would help ensure that human rights are protected and the natural environment is safeguarded across supply chains serving the UK.

Holding a £2m by-election for the Norfolk Police and Crime Commissioner makes little sense when that role will be abolished in 2028. I’ve asked the Government to remove the requirement for the role to be filled and to allow the Police and Crime Panel to take over.

Every visit gives me a real boost. Pupils often ask some of the toughest, most thoughtful and most interesting questions I get asked anywhere. Whether it’s climate change, mental health, or the future they want to see, young people care deeply about the world around them.
