After fleeing from his war-ravaged hometown, a timid boy enrolls in an elite knighthood academy while falling for the ghost haunting his rose-scented manor; but when enemy knights invade his cozy new town during a festival that allows the dead to live for a single night, he must learn how to rally his courage before the girl he loves is lost forever.

CHAPTER ONE
My ghost never hides in the shadows.
When the afternoon burns brightest, I’ll catch her silhouette in the sunshine. When night steals the sky I glimpse delicate blue eyes peeking out behind moonbeam curtains. It’s been five weeks since we've moved in, yet I've only ever found her in the light.
“She’s not your ghost,” reminds Olive. “I can see her, too!”
But my sister’s claim rattles out like a lie. Looking at her now, she’s scrunching her face up, squinting real tight, yet her eyes never seem to find the shimmering girl that runs through Rosefall Manor.
Not like mine do.

the phantom that carves
all these tears, how they tear
down my cheeks
silver valleys
in the dark I stalk the alleys
of memories fond
of memories foul
of memories sweet enough I howl
all to hold your phantom frame
squeezing tight to feel the flame
your shadowed fingers burn and maim
when I fear that's what I'll claim
a duet dance stepped all alone
a jester dying on your throne
remnants left of what was home
this vacant body cannot roam
broken, buried; final eulogy

The Kiss Bastian crushed his lips to mine. His hands were desperate waves, my hips the shores they crashed against. With a touch reverent yet ravenous he clawed me closer, his nails finding my lower back. A moan escaped my lips, rumbling against the tongue now dancing with my own.

Nothing

The words, they fall
I count them all;
Try to understand their form.
Bullets, ballistics,
Such vicious logistics;
To fray a bond once warm.

Artillery delivery,
A haunting dressed in livery;
This cold cuts to the bone.
Promises severed, hope untethered;
I say I should have known.

Glass gouged in my throat,
I croak and I choke,
And swallow 'till hollow;
Decrepit and broke.

Now sputter and shutter,
One word after another:
This void from shutting down.

After all the time spent,
Just to learn that I meant

Nothing

Nothing; a cavity hidden by a vest
Nothing but a malady in my chest
Nothing more than echoes and dust
Nothing left but ghosts and rust
Nothing that seeps in my skin
Nothing, this corrodes like sin
Nothing, rhymes without a rythmn

My shovel carved through the sodden earth, the water contorting into murky veins around its edge. Desperation drove each labored thrust, the burning ache in my muscles but an afterthought to the prize that lied in wait. Even the Valera Forest held its breath; the fog thick enough to smother the night's whispers. All was silent save for the spilling of soil under the deluge that drenched us.
