Our ram lamb is such a goof. He’s 4 months old and ready for a new home so I am officially registering him with the Gulf Coast Sheep breeders association. I name all our sheep after veggies- so he is officially rhr Radish!
Please consider writing a piece for this volume on Africana Digital Humanities at HBCU’s. I’ve worked with each of the editors, and they are all top notch humans! ( please circulate as well)
My Uncle painted this lovely picture for my cousin’s birthday! He attends an art shop that specializes in supporting those with disabilities. He’s been living in a group home for almost 40 years, and the programs they have found for him are just great. We are very lucky to have support.
We are consistently in 95 plus weather so the garden is slowing down, but today did give a few goodies!
Which is much better than this snake that was hanging out in the garden yesterday.
I’m pulling weeds in the garden, and this little one hopped on my hand to hang out for a bit.
It’s here!!!! So excited to read the latest from @roopikarisam.bsky.social .
Hold your loved ones close. Life moves too fast. Love you cousin. I will miss you.
I bought Bruiser a carpet mat that can be formed into a tunnel. After hiding in the tunnel he decided to just sleep on top while cuddling the carpet. He’s such a lug.
She also enjoys dog walks with @drbruceherbert.bsky.social. Classic imprinting!
I’m getting desperate to control our tomato glut so have been dehydrating them. So far they are producing amazing dried tomatoes!
Bruise McBruiser of the Bronx has transitioned from cat on the lam to King of his domain.
@drbruceherbert.bsky.social has been mowing our pastures to knock back the nasty sword grass and burrs- and he captured this glorious big sky picture.
Well… I hate to stir the pot, but as great as Montreal smoked beef is… it’s not NY Pastrami. And I miss the spicy mustard that is at every NY deli. Sorry Montréal! You have amazing food, but this isn’t working for me ( the half sour pickles were good!).
I sometimes feel like I’m channeling my grandmother. My garden is going bonkers so I pickled red beets, started ketchup from tomatoes, made a pie and put pa Dutch ham and beans (wax) on the stove for dinner. Don’t let those trad wives kid you- it’s a lot of work to go from seed to finished product.
Last lambs of the season. This mom was slow to finally lamb, but did very well as a first time mom. She’s super protective and attentive.
Exciting Sunday… walked the fence line checking for incursions with my trusty lgd buddy Kleo. She is more interested in me than the sheep, but she hates coyotes with all the passion of the burning sun.
This lamb has decided there is nothing better than surfing her mom’s back.
After much trauma-me running around the pasture for an hour trying to catch her until husband came home from work-I was able to pull this nice ram lamb. I really had little hope it would be alive, and when I unstuck him… so much relief!
Bruiser the- in his past life a stray but now rules the ranch- is living his best life.
This will be fun! We are in the middle of lambing right now. These are the critically endangered Gulf Coast Native sheep. We are helping to preserve this special breed.
My husband is sending me pictures of our lambs. The little Black ram is already developing horns. I love their coloration. 5 more ewes to lamb then the season is over.
It’s cold today which is perfect- I get to wear the new sweater I made. The great thing about knitting is you can customize- I always make my sleeves a hair long. Wool from the Woolly Thistle. Pattern Halftone Pullover by Indigo Knits.
It’s definitely spring here in Texas- complete with a cold front that will drop us to the 40s from the 80s in just a few days. The daffodils don’t care.
News continues to be terrible so here are our latest lambs. A black fleeced ram and a multi colored ewe. This was taken minutes after their birth. We are proud to raise Gulf Coast Natives, a critically endangered sheep breed.
More lambs! Another two sets of twins including a pitch black ram lamb. Also featuring an appearance by dad, who doesn’t seem that impressed that he now has 13 offspring at the ripe old age of 9 months!
