It took Many Hours but we are operational again. And I've learned like three new (basic but critical) things.
Time for another round of "what's it like to do research at a teaching-focused institution?" but in images.
But one student found a belastomatid carrying eggs (!) and another made me a tiny snail as a test print and nobody overheated so I guess we win.
If you look closely you can see the new trophic level that startled me this morning in the pollinator garden. 🐍

Back on my bullshit this week. The tube rocker makes a great mouse jiggler.
Could do without the heat wave but this office view remains unmatched.

So this happened. From here I start a (very slowly) phased retirement, right?
It's been the longest winter but today I got in the river with students for the 1st time this season and saw THIS, an actual first-time-in-my-life event! (That there is a unionid mussel trying to trick fish into thinking it is food so its larvae can become fish parasites)
Now time for some community ecology with a view of Lake Erie out there
Tim led us in a dispersed research project - folks from different PUIs, doing the same sampling protocol with students in different areas of the country. It's been a (fun, buggy, hot, sweaty) shared bonding experience for many years' worth of Invert Bio students by now.

My unpopular opinion is that I am really, really digging this Great Lakes winter, bringing us snowy intro to ecology and a towhee!

Realizing that much of the time suck of my chair duties is being back on the right side of this comic. (And weirdly, not when I email admin?)
Past Me thought it would be a good idea to teach a new course this fall (spoiler: it is not), so I guess be prepared for some incoming ento content here at the end of all things. For now, though, enjoy the view from last week's lab and some decidedly vertebrate content.
