A many-hours-long hiatus followed after I Swear, as I cruised around the Spadina area for a little while, looking at the many shops and places to rest one's legs. It came as no shock to me that, quite close to the Spadina streetcar line was a little place well-known for its repertoire of musical guests as well as its connection to a Toronto-set internet-turned-television series-turned movie I keep missing for some reason.

The Rivoli is a place that I don't think I need to elaborate on. It's the Toronto equivalent of CBGB or the Roxy. Of the musicians and groups that have played here, I'll list some.

Adele, Arcade Fire, Beck, The Flaming Lips, Hole, Iggy Pop, Stone Temple Pilots, and Sum 41, of the most well-known.

Playing upstairs that day was a blues trio, Little Magic Sam. I tipped them quite decently, and plan to get myself a physical CD of their music. They were very nice, and I'd love to support them when I can.

Downstairs, I talked with the bartender, asking about the significance of the bar. "You here because of Nirvanna the Band?" he asked. I had to answer truthfully. He continued...his take on the Rivoli's significance had to do with its cultivating environment, where both comedians and musicians are allowed to flourish their talents, no matter what kind of music or comedy they do. I asked to go to the back to see the main stage, which he allowed.

At the main stage was, of course, a main stage, and a bar to the right rear. Another bartender came around, and seeing my Industry pass, asked me if I was with Janus Films. That was a very nice compliment...

I explained that I wasn't, and I was here just visiting as part of a study abroad program, and asked what his favorite thing about the Rivoli was. He said he was a big Blue Rodeo fan, and that knowing they'd performed where he works was pretty cool. Eventually, the man from Janus Films arrived, and I was told that a private party was to be held within the hour. I wished them well, and headed out.

Burkas were part of the customary male garb of various peoples inhabiting the Caucasus region. Burkas were adopted by Russian cavalry, and worn as part of the Russian military uniform from the middle of the 18th century until the 1850s, during the Caucasus War. Vasily Chapayev was portrayed wearing a burka as a part of his military uniform in a 1934 Soviet film.

I don't often update my serializd listings but this was something of ample context

"During this dream, lyami ends up awakening the long-dead and supposedly peacefully-passed Chibita Jyuurozaemon Mitsutomo's ghost, to which much of the episode lyami spends in an insomniac stupor whilst trying to exorcise this mysterious take on Freddy Krueger who is apparently jealous that Totoko has feelings for him so bad. This isn't exactly a tonal take on the Elm Street films as one might imagine, but it's much more in line with something like Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness. If I ever get to meet Sam Raimi one of these days, I'll have to show him this episode."

"On October 27th, 2009, Marvel Characters Inc. filed a trademark for 'Comic books; Comic magazines; Printed periodicals in the field of comic book stories and artwork' under the name Mort the Dead Teenager. The purported usage of the trademark was later confirmed by artist Shawn Crystal in 2025, in that there was an intended reboot comic being developed 'in 2010-ish' with him and writer Duane Swierczynski helming. Crystal states that the revival was planned as a five-issue miniseries, and that him and Swierczynski had completed 10 pages before the project was abruptly cancelled by Marvel.

The miniseries was never formally announced, and no art has resurfaced in the time after its
cancellation. The trademark for the planned revival was abandoned on July Ist, 2013."
