Back in our #GreenbeltFestival days. Chatting to Olivia and Tom about all things Rev in 2010. Haven’t attended GB for some years but were regulars in a previous life, and admire the ethos.
Passed through Caernarfon. Had a pint. Saw a good castle. Wales seems to have a thing for decent castles.
Some years back I spent a bit of time working on an audio-visual install project in Oman. Uninspiring job but paid some bills. But…the rich guys living in the mansions were the ones who owned air-conditioning companies. Grim times ahead for the planet.
Actually I snapped another door further along, with what could be a very ‘Department of Works’ style BBC sign over the door.

Ok so a bit more summer reading, of some thorough inspiration for the doctorate I’m (slowly) working on. A tremendous set of essays.
“I’m going to tidy out some cupboards today, and get rid of some old clutter” “Will it be a thorough clear out of old tech and stuff?” … “No. Not THAT thorough!”
#MicrophoneMonday An array of hot-wire microphones at the short-lived acoustic ranging facility at Dungeness, Kent, ~1930. Some usefulness remained, but ‘sound mirrors’ were largely committed to obsolescence by radar. Alan Blumlein gets a mention in the visitors’ notes (for the audio trainspotters).

When you dig out the dormant, beloved, coffee machine for first time in years, and find that it still works (but one’s technique is rusty)
I’m teaching on the S6 later this week, and was just checking that the valves all work and the rubber bands have some zing. It’s a useful beast, albeit with a few quirks.
The lamp, Portland Bill lighthouse, Dorset. After viewing the previous, massive Fresnel lens on display in the lighthouse’s museum, this little 300W LED bulb setup (main and standby) looks a bit anti-climactic. Progress though, I guess.
While others may reach for a mastering plug-in during post, my student today mixed a live TEDx broadcast event at #mediabmth and got his loudness into a nice groove, seemingly effortlessly. Small details. #audioproduction
