This verge on the Isle of Mull currently has 35 species in flower. Compare that to 10-12 in the verges either side For 6 years I've scattered my spare yellow rattle seeds there every autumn. They parasitise perennial grasses and give wildflowers a chance Any day now the Council will strim it 😥
Better late than never: a break in the weather lets my wildflower lawn in Scotland get started. This year I have a wealth of orchids: Northern Marsh, Butterfly, and this white one which I think may be some kind of marsh orchid but not sure which #wildflowerhour @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
The library now is even more interesting. Almost all the books have been removed, carefully curated, and placed in individual boxes in a climate-controlled building. The library itself (still with all its features) is used as an exhibition space. This is the Gaia exhibition in 2023
Just over 5 months since I started my hand-written copy of FotR, and today at last we've left the Shire and entered the Old Forest. Writing out the tale is giving me fascinating insights into Tolkien's process - very different from swift reading. I estimate 12 journals in total to complete my task

Back in my favourite café for the first time this season. This is The Glass Barn, at Sgriobh Ruadh farm on the Isle of Mull. Weather is sunny with intermittent thundery showers. There are >30 wildflowers beside the lane leading up to the café

I've almost completed the first blank journal in my handwritten copy of The Fellowship of the Ring, and we're still in the Shire! Almost at Bucklebury Ferry - but the tension is ramping up. I've read LOTR a million times, but I still feel the fear when the Riders' cries startle the hobbits 😟
