I am one chapter in to This Is How You Lose the Time War and I already understand exactly how this book would be infuriating to a specific type of reader.

That's why it's not enough to simply play by the rules. The game is designed to drain you for all that you're worth, and even winners get discarded at the end. The only way to truly overcome the game is to break the rules
Even when dungeon delving isn't a job in the setting, scarcity is still a constant threat, and the villains are the powers that enforce that scarcity. One way or another, the system is designed to punish and exploit.
The people who fight to repel these dungeons are often depicted as an exploited labor foice. Unfortunately, because manhwa and webtoons are themselves an export commodity, they rarely delve deeply into the anti-capitalist themes that are built into the genre.
Portal Invasion is a genre popularized in Korean light novels and manhwa - a sort of answer to Isekai. Instead of traveling to an exotic *other* world, those other worlds crash into your home, often with violent intent.
