The truth?

The human part of me would never have chosen the path I’m on. It doesn’t feel like it ever really had a choice.

Still, I am possessed by it.

For years, I felt like I was beat into submission by the universe—forced to become myself and set on a mission I now deeply believe in.

It was intense. Frightening. All-encompassing. Completely unavoidable.

I was going to be swallowed by something.

There was no more running.

Many people I’ve spoken to who have experienced this kind of “initiation” have reported the same.

I love the detail where Cordelia needed to find the thread into the case.

She sees the broken glass, and then the story reveals all the moments where that same detail appeared throughout her observations — scattered pieces suddenly becoming a meaningful pattern.

Then she runs outside, gets new insight, and a falcon flies overhead.

That’s the thing about insight: the world can feel like a collection of unrelated moments right up until something suddenly reorganizes your understanding.

And then, if you're lucky... the universe gives you a little treat to reward you for paying attention.

Theoretically, culturally, I should have known better.

But my actual nervous system — the body that I live inside — never had an opportunity to know better.

And despite all of my desperate scrambling for help over decades, no one seemed to understand what was wrong, and no one seemed to be able to tell me how to make it better.

Not until I was ready to accept my own humanity, which is no small order when you have had an especially traumatic time on Earth.

Because once you accept it, your mind will try to assign meaning to your suffering.

And that is the point where behavior can begin to shift depending on the meaning you choose to build from it.

It is very easy for me to respect myself at this point in my life simply because everything about who I am and what I've done makes sense when I look back on my life.

Eating disorders that had me hospitalized, three decades of suicidal ideation, impulse control issues that landed me in jail, promiscuity that put me in no end of situations where I was physically, sexually, emotionally, and mentally harmed.

I respect it.

Because that behavior all made perfect sense given the childhood that I survived.

If you're someone whose behavior seems to be confusing, even to yourself, due to cPTSD, I would challenge you to do this:

Stop asking yourself:

"What is wrong with me that I am like this?"

And start asking yourself:

"What happened that made this expression of myself intelligent?"

The answer won’t mean that every reaction is still serving you… they probably aren’t.

But it will help you begin to understand that your personal history does, indeed, have adaptive, internal logic.

The things you struggle with today often began as solutions to something you were trying to survive.

I was more into absurd shenanigans than partying, BUT…

When I was like 22, a friend and I met up in a hotel room like this.

I did a line of coke off of his dick purely for the novelty of the experience.

He did not get laid.

Instead, he listened to me rant about human evolution… while I was on coke.

When I’m already… you know… like I am…

All of my original posts are basically just little captures from the feed of thoughts constantly running through my head.

I catch one, write it down, and move on.

Another thought comes. I catch that one too.

By the end of the day, my page feels less like a collection of posts and more like an archive of how I interacted with my own mind.

And honestly, I think that’s true for a lot of people.

The things we choose to share are little records of what we noticed, what we engaged with, and what we decided was worth keeping.

I love that.

Willpower is a battery, not a personality trait.

It is a combination of energy, attention, emotion, and biology working together.

The problem is that we often build lives where we spend that energy forcing ourselves through things we don't actually want to do.

Then we wonder why there isn't enough left for the things we do want.

And the answer is:

There isn't.

It is not easy to prioritize what you actually want your life to look like.

But that is how you create a life that feels balanced — one you actually enjoy living inside.

One of the greatest challenges of my public-facing life is that I’m not energized by being the center of attention.

I’m deeply uncomfortable when my personhood feels like it’s being evaluated inside a social hierarchy. I have a long history of being perceived as either more than human or less than human, and my humanity gets lost in both directions.

But I am energized by organizing attention around an idea. By creating an experience for others to step inside of.

Unfortunately, I seem to be possessed by a drive for the latter, which keeps forcing me to become comfortable with the first…

And I have been kicking and screaming about it like a child the entire way. 🙃😂
