Good point about the endorsements too. I confess I was swayed more by my negative opinions of most of Liebman’s endorsers (not just Cuomo) and overlooked the one or two (like Tish James) that are OK, while ignoring the fact that Lawrence has none. Oh, wait—there is her dad! 😄

This was clear from the questions after the discussion, as most of the folks who came forward were formerly incarcerated: two had just been released this year! Everyone applauded them. It was very moving. Here's Corey and Garrett having a moment during the talk and two of Vic Liu's paintings.

Saturday I went to see the documentary WTO/99 at the Park Slope branch of @bklynlibrary.bsky.social, presented by the Park Slope Food Coop's International Trade Education Squad @psfc-trade.bsky.social. Thursday I went to the launch of @jeremytiang.bsky.social's latest translation, Night Train, by mainland Chinese author Xu Zechen (@twolinespress.com). Jeremy's discussion with fellow author and translator YZ Chin, at Yu & Me Books in Manhattan's Chinatown, was in equal parts insightful & humorous.

Wednesday I went to the launch of Yotam Marom's book For Louder Days: Reaching Beyond a Politics of Powerlessness. It was a beautiful and uplifting evening. As he wrote on IG, "full of love, and warmth, but also vulnerability and honesty and seriousness about our task as movements and people."

I confess I'm not a plant person, but I loved the way these paintings sat inside the library space and the teachings offered with them: plantain, brown-eyed susan, stinging nettle, and yarrow (website says in collaboration with jackie sumell, of Growing Abolition: www.thewarehousenyc.com)

What are the Delaney Hall hunger strikers demanding? Many people have questions about what is happening inside Delaney Hall. The detainees on hunger strike have stated that their demands are: 1) Meet with the Governor: "We demand Governor Mikie Sherrill come inside the facility to meet with us." 2) Release medically vulnerable people: "We demand the immediate release of those with serious medical conditions." 3) Release young and elderly detainees: "We demand the immediate release of young and elderly people." 4) Freedom: "We're not striking to demand better conditions and treatment. We're doing this to demand our freedom." "We're going on strike until we get heard." This hunger strike is not about improving detention conditions. The strikers say it is about freedom and release. #DignityNotDetention #DelaneyHall #ImmigrantJustice
