one of my favorite simpsons scenes, sorry for using a flimsy pretext to post it.
i hadn't seen the paper, but i'll read it later. but this is not exactly promising?
like i think it's relevant that @mjgault.bsky.social is the author, and what i know (from his writing and from @404media.co's stated values, etc). and i think it's illuminating that he was reminded of this story by Ellison and Silverberg, and how Ellison was fiercely protective of his creative work.
*tilts fedora* notwithstanding your condescending tone, i will deliberate on what you've said...
and the dropsite staff apparently read "i ended up in a bad situation with him" and they're trying to be like "oh i see something like <pic>"
i love how this show sees like 8 frames and the artists are like "yeah that's enough time to have a little joke"
one of my favorite things about the STDC group is how they take things like childcare & food seriously as needs to be addressed to make it possible for people to get involved organizing. i don't have kids but it's cool to think about kids growing up watching their parents do stuff for the community.
i would encourage people considering getting into debates w/AI advocates to ask whether it changes your opinion of that proposition if i posited that the person you're arguing with doesn't consider it important to strive to be honest with you on any fundamental basis like mutual respect or something
on the other hand, this guy seems pretty cool and i hope he gets everything he wants
i did a triple take at this line. the university of michigan apparently jeopardized a grad student's status and got him detained by ICE for almost a month on this basis, which i can only convey to non-academic folks as "absolute horse shit"
fake account that has been playing it straight for almost 2 years, the real long game of jokes
!!! we are starting "Techno-Negative: A Long History of Refusing the Machine" by Thomas Dekeyser this week. this week we're just reading the intro, so you still absolutely have time to get the book ASAP and join us.
i didn't notice his body language before, but damn he does NOT want to be having this conversation...
common Riker W, by the way. within a few years, laws do seem to come into place to prohibit simulating people without their consent.
