#WIP shots of this reductive #woodcut edition I've been working on. I've been experimenting with color, transparency overlays and masking. This is probably the most playful #print I've made, lots of "respond and react" rather than just "plan and execute". I think just one more layer to go - excited!
For the last two weeks I've been working on an #artstudio refresh. My space got a fresh coat of paint, floors without carpet, some nice lights, and a bit of a reconfiguration. I love it! Time to tackle the next layer of the #woodcut #print I have in progress and start some new #paintings.
I spent the whole weekend #printmaking. I was able to #print the first layers of these two prints. One #collagraph print of quarried rocks and one #woodcut print of a lighthouse lens. These have more layers of color in their future, but I am excited about these starts. #artworkinprogress
I might still do a small drawing pass or two on this #painting, but this was a fun multi-day #pleinair session of different view of this grain elevator building. #oilpainting
For the first time in two months, I had nothing on the calendar this past weekend but #artstudio time (well, and some yard work). I spent the time working on a #oilpainting and a #collagraph #print of a quarry rock pile. I'm really excited about the potential of both of these. #artworkinprogress
Happy Saturday 👋 This evening, May 9th, from 6-8pm, the lovely folks at the Frameworks Gallery in St. Paul are hosting an #artistreception for my show "Works on Paper". Join us! The #artshow is on view through June 13th and features my #paintings, #prints, and #drawings on paper.
Join us for an #artistreception this evening, 6 - 8 PM, at the Bridgewater in #Minneapolis. This #artshow features the lovely work of nine local artists, including a selection of my #paintings.
This afternoon I'm dropping off 31 of my #drawings, #paintings and #prints at the Frameworks Gallery in St. Paul to be on display May 2 - June 13 in an #artshow titled "Works on Paper". Included in the works that will be on display are these two #pleinair paintings.
Due to what feels like tropical Island weather today (80 degrees and high humidity), I worked outside on my first official #pleinair #painting of the season. #oilpainting #paintingonpaper
In the #artstudio the past couple weeks I've been working on mounting some #oilpaintings completed on Arches Oil Paper onto gessoed wood panels. These are getting framed in a white float frame next. I am loving this look.
Thank you to ahouseunbuilt.com, the panelists, and the attendees for a wonderful discussion last night about art, water, ecology, and community as part of the closing reception for the exhibit "Where There Is Water". The gallery is open on this snowy Sunday for the last day of the show ❄️ #mnartist
🎉 My oil painting "Morning Boat Houses" was selected for the Jackson's Art Prize longlist. Full list here: jacksonsart.awardsplatform.com/gallery/xdJA... If you'd like to see this piece in person, it's on view now at ahouseunbuilt.com through March 15.
I'm giving an #artist talk today at 2pm at ahouseunbuilt.com. Join me! I'll be talking about the work currently on view in the exhibition "Where There Is Water" including why this #painting is titled "Steady Green Light". #artexhibition #minnesotaartist #artisttalk
The gallery is open 🤗 Here is a snowy street view outside of ahouseunbuilt.com where the #artexhibition "Where There Is Water" featuring my #paintings, prints and #drawings is on view through March 15. The gallery is open 11am - 6pm Thursday, Friday and Sunday. #artonview #artgallery #mnartist
I spent the day installing my upcoming #artexhibition "Where There Is Water" at ahouseunbuilt.com which opens this Friday, February 13th. This #artshow is the culmination of the work I created for the Creative Individuals Grant I received from the #Minnesota State Arts Board in 2025. #mnartist
It's been really hard to focus and find energy lately. Working in the studio feels like walking through sand. This weekend I was able to make progress on these two #paintings. I think both of them have one more small glazing pass before being declared complete. I do love their color palettes.
Today I finished up my edition of this #linocut #print of a #lighthouse. I'm super happy with the result (especially the shimmery water) and I learned a lot - which always feels like a bonus. I'll take better photos and get this on my website in the coming weeks. #reliefprint #printmaking #artwork
I was able to make some progress on this #painting today. I'm going to start introducing some compositional elements to this piece on the next pass that will echo the print I'm working on. It feels good to be in the studio in spite of everything. #artworkinprogress #oilpainting #artyear
I printed layer three of my #linocut #print of this #lighthouse last night. I'm going to reduce this blue plate down and print one more layer in a slightly darker blue to deepen the shadows on the roof and the rampart. #artworkinprogress #printmakingprogress #printmaking
Today I was able to print the second layer of my #linocut #print in a maroon rust color. This was printed using a reductive method with my first block. Next up is a sky blue layer using a second block. #printmaking #artinprogress #reliefprint
Here are some images of the planning and #printing of this #linocut image of a lighthouse. Layer one in yellow was printed today. I'm planning to do four layers using two blocks with a reductive method. Next up a red/purple layer. #artinprogress #printmaking #reliefprintmaking
Another #artworkinprogress on the #studiowall. This one has been #wip for a while, but I think it is about 2-3 passes away from being done. The soft edges, loose brush strokes and transparency are a nice contrast to the other #oilpaintings I have underway at the moment. #artyear #artstudio
Here are two #wip #oilpaintings hanging on my #artstudio wall. I also posted about this work on my blog today if you'd like to read more: www.amandahanlon.com/news/on-the-...
I had a nice afternoon in the #artstudio today. I'm feeling good about the progress made on these two #paintings. #artworkinprogress #artyear #oilpainting
I spent the afternoon working on some preliminary #coloredpencil #drawings today. I had a #studioassistant for a little while until the cord on my headphones and the pencils on my desk became a bit too interesting. #sketching #kittens
I spent the last week getting these #canvases and #woodpanels stretched, primed and sanded. Now it's time to get to work! #artstudio #blankcanvas #artworkinprogress
Enjoyed a lovely snowy long weekend in #duluthmn. I now have a lot of fun new reference material to work from in the studio in the upcoming weeks.
