Amber Hathaway (she/her) is an autistic author of eerie and unnerving tales featuring a motley assortment of misfits and weirdos. She wrote the Little White Flowers folk horror series, and her short stories have appeared in multiple anthologies. She holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Maine, among other degrees. When not writing or reading, you may find her fashioning Halloween props, cosplaying as a creepy doll, gallivanting around her neighborhood in search of Pokemon, or haunting the Maine woods. She lives in central Maine with her equally eccentric partner, Brian Toner.

Autism—Our main character, Alice, is autistic, although she doesn't have a diagnosis.
ADHD—Alice's brother Andy, has ADHD.
Anxiety/panic—Alice deals with intense anxiety and panic. Autism and anxiety often go hand in hand.
Substance use disorder—Andy is in recovery for substance use disorder.

PTSD/cPTSD—Multiple characters in the story show signs of PTSD or cPTSD as a result of abuse.
Arthritis—Although it's only made explicit for one character, Emma Lewis, there are three characters in Little White Flowers with arthritis.
Speech impediment—It only comes up for one character in Book 1, Dan Lewis, who has a lisp. However, there is a second character with a speech impediment, a stutter that returns under intense stress. That doesn't appear until Book 3.
Dyslexia—If you wondered why the town librarian's sister can't read, it's because she's dyslexic and Evanston's insular religious community isn't concerned about women's education.

Erica's eyebrows pinched inward. "I didn't mean to embarrass you. It's really nothing to worry about. So you like girls. Big deal."

Carrie's eyes moved over the magazine posters plastering her walls, a mixture of her favorite musical artists like Madonna and Janet Jackson and heartthrobs such as Paul Rudd and Rider Strong. The women were beautiful, of course, but not what Carrie would consider cute or hot. Which made her feelings for Tracy even more confusing.

"That's the thing," Carrie said. "I don't. Or I didn't. But Tracy and I got close at summer camp, and I started seeing her differently."

"So what happened?"

Carrie's mouth and throat became parched, and it took her a moment to form words. "If I tell you, you can't tell anyone."

"Of course," Erica said.

"Pinky promise?"

Erica extended her pinky, and Carrie linked hers with Erica's. Erica gave Carrie's finger a shake. "Pinky promise."
