don't agree with a lot of the post but definitely worth reading and this part gave me some hope that we end up in an ok place don't think you need to agree with someone on everything or even work with them at all as long as the end goal is the same and you get there one way or another

The problem is not, ultimately, the technology. Working less, with the collected art and science and knowledge of humanity at your fingertips: that is the promise of the future I have always dreamed of. How are we to reach fully automated luxury gay space communism without automation?

The problem is the social structure that surrounds it. The technology may be inevitable, but its consequences are not.

We must deny the concentration of benefits, and mitigate the diffusion of harms, in three important ways.

1. Regulation must be passed to stop the pointless avoidable harms and ease the transition.

2. We must decentralize control over this technology.

3. We must redistribute the dividend of prosperity, lifting all of us up.

Meanwhile, Harris welcomed her endorsement by Dick Cheney, who was not a very popular vice president but was a zealous defender of torturing Muslims. The cumulative message was not "We don't need your vote." It was "We don't value your life."

sometimes you are hated sometimes you can shoot the wrong person and still become a national icon gaining popularity to the point where even the non violent wing has to acknowledge their sacrifice and there are memorials to you to this day

Bhagat Singh was convicted of the murder of John Saunders and Channan Singh, and hanged in March 1931, aged 23. He became a popular folk hero after his death. Jawaharlal Nehru wrote about him: "Bhagat Singh did not become popular because of his act of terrorism but because he seemed to vindicate, for the moment, the honour of Lala Lajpat Rai, and through him of the nation. He became a symbol; the act was forgotten, the symbol remained, and within a few months each town and village of the Punjab, and to a lesser extent in the rest of northern India, resounded with his name." In still later years, Singh, an atheist and socialist in adulthood, won admirers in India from among a political spectrum that included both communists and right-wing Hindu nationalists. Although many of Singh's associates, as well as many Indian anti- colonial revolutionaries, were also involved in daring acts and were either executed or died violent deaths, few came to be lionised in popular art and literature as did Singh, who is sometimes referred to as the Shaheed- e-Azam ("Great martyr" in Urdu and Punjabi).

Subhas Chandra Bose said that: "Bhagat Singh had become the symbol of the new awakening among the youths." Nehru acknowledged that Bhagat Singh's popularity was leading to a new national awakening, saying: "He was a clean fighter who faced his enemy in the open field ... he was like a spark that became a flame in a short time and spread from one end of the country to the other dispelling the prevailing darkness everywhere". Four years after Singh's hanging, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Horace Williamson, wrote: "His photograph was on sale in every city and township and for a time rivaled in popularity even that of Mr. Gandhi himself"

Gandhi admitted that he could no further since India's freedom was more important than the execution of a few young men who would cheerfully court death for their country. Nevertheless Gandhi paid tribute to their courage and self-sacrifice, while drafting a resolution on their sacrifices for the Karachi session. It ran thus: "This Congress, while disassociating itself from and disapproving of political violence in any form, places on record its admiration for the bravery and sacrifice of the late Sardar Bhagat Singh and his comrades Sukhdev and Rajguru and mourns with the bereaved families the loss of their lives. The Congress is of the opinion that government have lost the golden opportunity of promoting the goodwill between the two nations, admittedly held to be essential at this juncture and of winning over to the method of peace, the party which, being driven to despair resorts to political violence

People gotta stop using Gandhi like some magical figure that they invoke to make a point about nonviolence when he also clearly understood there is a time and place for armed resistance too
