I was in Garden Village, East Hull, last Wednesday evening and passed the birth place of J Arthur Rank. He started out in the family flour milling business (think Rank Hovis McDougall), but being a Methodist went into the film business initially to produce religious and moral teaching films.
I'm not religious but I collect photos of small(er) churches in interesting places. Notre-Dame de Dives-Sur-Mer (parts dating to the 11th century) in the Calvados department in Normandy, from where Guillaume le Conquerant set sail for England in 1066.

Blood donation completed. First donation in about 20 years but I figured it's never too late to restart (though there is an age cut-off).
@theofficialgrb.bsky.social How would you restore these pine cupboard doors? They might have been stripped of paint by dip method, but not treated (as far as I can see). Over 35+ years they've become dry, warped slightly, and also "spotty" (residual oil in the wood?). We don't want to over paint.

Nice pint of #Adnams 'Broadside' at the Old Ticket Office @ Cambridge railway station. Having holidayed often in Southwold as a child, it always brings back memories..... but not of drinking alcohol back then naturally 😂
Can't rationalise that with what know a slice of bloomer should look like. Either way the plane or axis doesn't compute.
Also ,was interested to find this handwritten label on the back of the actual speaker, a throwback to the niche producer origins of Joe Akroyd's company, Royd Audio (1990-2004). en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Akr...
@drmperdix.bsky.social Refurbishing the old Royd A7 MkII speakers (foam speaker cone surrounds had perished) bought during Wentworth College days at the University of York ~37 years ago. Bought from soundorg.co.uk on Gillygate, and it's still there (but further down the road)!

Yesterday's final view of the chemistry building, and my (sixth) office window is in there too, as an employee of the place I've given blood, sweat and tears for the last 29 years and 10 months. A bittersweet moment.
Longest serving member(s) of the lab prepare to leave after 29 yrs and 10 mo. Like Doctor Who, it's not the original incarnation, whose parent lived in the Johnson Lab in Leeds Chemistry West Block, but they've been with me through thick and lots of thin since 1995. Here's to a happy retirement!
The very last (😢) Hull MChem cohort on a sunny projects day in East Yorkshire. And would you believe it but my project supervisees walked off with 1st and 2nd prizes for their talks!
