It was great to meet with Prime Minister Mark Carney today to talk about Edmonton and the opportunities ahead for our city. We spent some time talking about the many festivals taking place across Edmonton this summer and what makes our city such a special place to call home.

I spent yesterday evening connecting with Edmonton’s South Sudanese community to celebrate their nation’s 15th Independence Day. A huge thank you to the youth, community leaders, and organizers for hosting yesterday’s wonderful BBQ event.

Today, 20 young Edmontonians in this year’s Civic Youth Fellowship showcased their work, contributing to active city files, policy research and community engagement. Thank you to each participant and the community organizations helping build a city that reflects and serves all residents.

Today I joined Minister Eleanor Olszewski and Right at Home Housing for the groundbreaking of a new affordable housing development in Kiniski Gardens. This project is one of 11 being built on former surplus school sites with support from the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund.

Founded on July 17, 1926, the Royal Canadian Legion has spent 100 years supporting Veterans, advocating for their rights, and honouring those who sacrificed for Canada's freedom. That mission continues through our local branches: Kingsway #175, Strathcona #150, and Jasper Place #255.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to appreciate the knowledge, cultures and contributions of Indigenous Peoples, who have shaped these lands since time immemorial. By approaching one another with openness, we can foster wahkohtowin: kinship and positive relationships with one another.

Patios are more than spatial features, they add vibrancy to the City by beautifying our streets and sidewalks, enhancing and expanding business spaces, and attracting residents and visitors to local shops and restaurants, allowing more people to join in on the joyful energy that defines Edmonton.

Text: Our patio program was initially developed as a COVID-19 response, where the focus was on limiting risk and improving safety outcomes for Edmontonians. We now have a new opportunity to refresh our approach, still considering safety and risk, but also prioritizing vibrancy, attractive streets, and economic development.

Text: My motion is a step toward helping more businesses expand, serving a greater number of customers and continuing to infuse vibrancy into our community, BIAs and main streets. In turn, we can see more benefits such as job opportunities for those seeking flexible work, such as youth looking for jobs during school breaks.

Economic Development is a Council priority, and I will continue to advocate for actions that support local vibrancy, business growth, and increase tourism drivers. By enhancing our patio program, the City is making it easier for businesses to thrive and continue brightening Edmonton's Economy.

I am appalled by the hateful graffiti discovered outside a Muslim school and daycare here in Edmonton. This is not just vandalism; it is an act of intimidation targeting children, families, and educators because of their faith. It is Islamophobia, and it is completely unacceptable.

This weekend, I was privileged to join the Lynwood Community League for the grand opening of a new playground. Parks are an integral part of Edmonton neighbourhoods, fostering spaces for play, connection and curiosity for children and youth in our city.
