As someone that grew up in Indianapolis listening to the Indy 500 on the radio—I am excited about seeing this race! It’s also been fun acting like a race car going to work in the mornings.
I’d been trying to find out what happened to it but this explains why it was on early maps but not later ones. Here’s a car stopping at 13th and D before it went back the other way on C St.
Apparently the streetcar barn at 13th and D Street NE burned in February 1912 and was never rebuilt. This led to it eventually becoming Kingsman Field and Dog Park! The image is from the Washington Times coverage of the fire.
Neighborhood fireworks putting on a good show! Can’t stop joy in DC despite everything going on in the world. Happy Independence Day!
Those parking garages are huge, dwarfing the residential especially in Kingman Commons!
The Mall is nearly unnavigable to people and bikes but there is a Metrorail train parked there for some reason!
It’s getting windy. The cloud cover is letting me listen to the Warped Tour at nearby RFK.
Thanks to the nearly 5,000 neighbors and friends that came out to the Capitol Hill Classic. This event has supported the students and families at Peabody, Watkins, and Stuart-Hobson Middle School for more than 40 years! Looking forward to supporting another 40+ years of the event!
Increasing housing affordability in DC is a challenge. A few years ago, I helped develop recommendations but an interesting finding from panel was the challenge of existing zoning. Even in upzoned areas, they weren’t done in a way that allowed denser housing. urbanland.uli.org/development-...
@doeedc.bsky.social @ddotdc.bsky.social I submitted a 311 request (26-00267931) but lots of bees at 14th and F ST NW. Need to find new location for hive!
Not quite a platoon but from our morning ride to school with the neighbors
Fun that we ran into some DCPS families during our Spring Break trip to South Carolina last week! It’s a small world!!!
I think homework packets are over confident in parents knowledge of chores for farm animals. I asked my daughter, “what cows eat”and she said “blueberries.” I said “sure, why not and maybe!”
DC could add site (or parts of site) as land use controls as part of the State Air Quality Implementation Plan. This would create legal certainty that zoning, transit improvements (new station), and VMT reductions occurred for development. @cmcharlesallen.bsky.social nepis.epa.gov/Exe/ZyPDF.cg...
