One thing that is fascinating to see is how much cheaper a lot of laserdisc titles could be compared to the VHS/Beta editions by a good 2000-3000 yen. This catalog is Vol 7, issue 8. Would love to find more early volumes from this catalog, hit me up if you have or know of any for sale!

Mailbag Day! Recently saw a listing for a catalog about anime and TV releases circa 1989 from Japan. The thing that caught my eye was the mention of VHD releases. Sure enough a small set of titles came out that year including Akira (also on S-VHS), Gunbuster, and Totoro. Cont.

Felt fitting with seeing the Adolesence of Utena film in theaters recently, that an old Central Park Media sales sheet of a lot of their 2001 DVD titles, with Utena from the movie on the front, would come my way. Have some scanning to do for this and other old sales sheets i've collected.

I'll take full blame (and us all being tired Sunday morning) for this mix up, I should have been more clear that the A-ko tape was only scanned for the bluray's image gallery in the extras. Anyway, we'll go stand in the hall @worldofcrap.bsky.social 😅

Mailbag Day! Old media, still sealed. Another episode of Orbots on betamax, a screener of Golgo 13 with a hilarious sticker across the top, s-CRY-ed on UMD, and another one of those dubious Harlock bargain discs.

Let's talk a bit more about these bargain bin discs. Besides the few episodes of these old dubs, taken most likely from VHS rips with awful sound quality; they also feature episodes of dreck like Clutch Cargo. These discs were glorified bootlegs at best, littering dollar stores for a time.

It's a new mailbag day! We have betamax tapes of Gold Wing (a Korean work originally) and Saber Rider, ansealed UMD copy of R.O.D. The TV, and some infamous bargain bin dvd fodder with dubious releases of the old ZIV Harlock episodes and Tobor the 8th Man (just look at that cover art).

Small mailbag day. Got in a sealed copy of the US laserdisc of Robot Carnival. Also found a random volume of the French version of Harlock from a Quebec based distributor at a used media store today.

Couple new items arrived today: Princess Tutu and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! from the recent Sentai sale. Also two Streamline laserdiscs releases of Lensman (we were using a copy loaned out by a friend before) and Nadia. Worth mentioning Nadia says volume 1 on it, there never was a volume 2.

Finally, here's all three tapes of Sunrise's infamous adaptation of Starship Troopers; a regular feature showcase at bad anime panels for years. The fact these tapes recycle the same image on every cover is kind of astounding to see even for a Japanese OVA release from the late 1980s.

Another thing about these Jump series releases, outside of the Kimagure Orange Road tape, the others could only be acquired through promotional offers from Shonen Jump. The Museum is seriously thrilled to have these in the collection. Cont.

These Japanese tapes from various Shonen Jump titles are really great to have. Featuring a pilot for Kimagure Orange Road, a promotional tape for Hareluya II BOY, and one-shot OVA of Sekimatsu Leader den Takeshi!, Hunter x Hunter, and One Piece made for the 1998 Jump Super Anime Tour event.

AWOL and Ehrgeiz were titles under Bandai Ent.'s early "AnimeVillage.com" moniker. Both received full subbed releases, but iirc only the first two episodes of each got a single English dub tape. Neither title made it to DVD, same for Clamp School Detectives as well. Cont.
