I am the Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) for Ottawa West-Nepean (Canada). This is a personal account.
Today is National Peacekeepers Day. For 7 decades Canada has sent over 125,000 CAF members, 4,500 police and civilians all around the world as part of UN Peacekeeping Missions. 130 Canadians lost their lives and more came home with visible and invisible injuries. Today we honour their sacrifice.
Julian of Norwich church has an excellent concept that helps with affordability and gives old items new life to help with the environment. It’s called “Junk in your trunk”. Participants park their cars in the church parking lot and fill them with items to sell. There were some treasures to be found!
Today I was on CBC Radio for a scavenger hunt for elected officials - the item was “Spiderman”. I found two, Aryan Bajpai (who showed up in his Spiderman sweater) and Geoff Laroque (OttawaSpiderman.ca). Listen to the segment for more: www.cbc.ca/listen/live-...

A huge thank you to the volunteers from the General Burns Community Association for hosting another fantastic family fun day recently. I had great conversations with neighbours, there was a BBQ, bouncy castle and some of the most original lawn games I’ve seen. Thanks to everyone who joined!
Canada Summer Jobs is a way for young people to get experience and for community organizations to get talented and enthusiastic staff. I was thrilled to meet 5 of these inspiring students at Hillel Lodge, working with seniors and gaining relevant skills. Ottawa West-Nepean has over 300 summer jobs.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth for today’s Family Fun Day in Central Park. What a beautiful day and a great community! #OttWN
Yesterday I met with Red Cross staff and volunteers assisting those impacted by the floods. They are distributing care packages and sharing information. Those impacted can register and get a caseworker by emailing NavigationSupportON@RedCross.ca. Or donate to the Ottawa flood relief brnw.ch/21x4f0Y
This summer look for me and my amazing team at events around the riding with our “pop-up constituency office”. We were at Kilreen Park last week for the Queensway Terrace South Ridgeview community picnic, and at Woodroffe park this week for the L’Arche Ottawa community day. Invite us to your event!
It was such a pleasure to join residents at the condo building at 1585 Baseline road for their flag raising ceremony and a pleasant coffee gathering. Thanks to Maureen and the board for inviting me! Such a great way to celebrate Canada and build a sense of community! #OttWN
This devastation is another reason why we need to act faster on climate change, increase infrastructure funding for flood mitigation, and regulate insurance companies. The only thing that makes the personal devastation people are facing more bearable is the amazing community spirit in our riding.2/2
I’ve been talking to residents hit by the devastating floods, sharing information and connecting people to get the resources they need. Particularly hard hit was Crystal Beach, where neighbours showed me their gutted basements and piles of personal belongings on the curb in front of every house. 1/2
It was a great evening to drop by the Nepean Night Market yesterday. Lots of cool hand-crafted items, including some amazing bow ties for cats, great Thai food, calming scents, colourful clothes from Nigeria and so much more! Every Sunday night 5-9pm at the Mr.Lube parking lot on Merivale and Clyde.
Thank you to all those who performed at my multicultural Canada Day concert! We had performers from age 8 to 80 representing 5 continents! Including a Juno-nominated reggae artist Ras Lee, UNESCO-designated Indonesian musicians and so much more! What a great way to celebrate our incredible country!
Today we celebrated the 70th anniversary of Carlingwood mall. A lifetime of memories, friendships and community has happened in this special space, which is so much more than a shopping centre. I was honoured to bring greetings from Prime Minister @mark-carney.bsky.social #ottwn
A great day for the Carlington Community Health Centre annual summer BBQ! It was great to have so many conversations with community members and to thank the staff, volunteers and board members who make such a difference in so many lives. It was also wonderful to hear @orkidstra.bsky.social perform!
Bonne Fête nationale à toutes les Québécoises et à tous les Québécois, ainsi qu’à toutes celles et ceux qui font vivre la langue française chaque jour. 💙⚜️
My team was busy with 2 pop-up constituency booths this weekend at the Qualicum Graham Park Summer Fun Day and at the Parkwood Hills Summer Fun Day. Handing out Canada flags to the kids and sharing the services our community office can provide, while hearing from neighbours about their priorities.
Today is National Indigenous People’s Day. The Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival at Wesley Clover Parks celebrates the cultures and heritage of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people. We honour the contributions of Indigenous peoples as we continue to work toward reconciliation and decolonization.
To all the fathers out there, have a very Happy Father’s Day. Hug your dads close today and cherish every moment. I miss you Papa.
I was honoured to co-host a roundtable with the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Veterans on the Invisible No More Project.Women veterans face unique barriers in accessing the services they deserve. They served and sacrificed for our country, and we must get this right.
It was a pleasure to join my colleagues at the Canada–Lebanon Parliamentary Friendship Group. Congratulations to my colleague Fayçal El-Khoury on his re-election as Chair. I look forward to continuing our work together to strengthen the strong ties between Canada and Lebanon!
Join me for an afternoon of local talent - music and dance performances from all over the world. We are celebrating on the Saturday before Canada Day so that everyone can enjoy both! Free admission! June 27 2-4pm at Maison de la Francophone d’Ottawa 2720 Richmond road.
I tabled the report of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights entitled “Standing with Democracy and Human Rights Defenders: Strengthening Support at a Critical Time”. I thank everyone who testified and submitted briefs since January. Read the full report: www.ourcommons.ca/content/Comm...
This is a weekend of community pop-up booths and great conversations! My team and I were at the Bel Air community Summerfest, W.E. Gowling school fair and plant sale and the Britannia Arts Crawl! It’s a great way to let residents know what kind of services our community office can provide. #OttWN
Community garage sales are a great way to find affordable treasures and save landfills. I saw a few very young entrepreneurs and lots of actual garages. Also - if you have time before 2:00pm, stop by Maki House in Crystal Beach for their plant sale. It’s for a good cause - DaysForGirls.org. #OttWN
