I think this may explain why this cursed... thing turned up in the middle of my tablet photos. I thought about asking about it at the time but I thought everybody would just say I had used AI to create it and was lying about it for clout.

Does anyone know what these things are? I bought them on eBay as beard / dread beads but though they're about the right size, they have a closed base and I have no idea what the hooks are for. Please share with anyone who might know, thank you!

Two small filigree... things made of silvertone base metal, about 1cm wide by 1.5 cm long, with a pierced flower pattern base, an open top and a hook on the side. Bottom view.

I think *part* of the confusion I've seen about this has to do with 'professor' being an earlier career job title in US universities than UK ones, but it makes me wonder how many unremarkable conjobs have found places in academia without anyone invoking this comic. imgs.xkcd.com/comics/how_i...

Awww, she looks like my beloved late Koshka, who I used to describe as a Siamese drawn by someone who had never seen one. She was smart enough to open the fridge & scared of everything except other cats, who she would drive off by crouching menacingly and making a noise like an eldritch car alarm.

Koshka, an elderly green eyed black and mostly white cat, sits on some mending and regards the world disapprovingly.
