The Fife Regatta under power along the Kyles of Bute. Too calm to sail! My friends are in the little boat being towed yesterday by the two-masted boat - both vessels are a hundred years old at least.
#WorldPeatlandsDay If you're into peatbogs, as I am, look out for ALSTON MOOR, a novel, coming in September 2026 with Elizabeth, an intrepid peatlands scientist as a main character! @goldsmithspress.bsky.social @goldsf.bsky.social @unamccormack.bsky.social More: annecharnock.com
Sun’s out! View of Isle of Arran from Isle of Bute’s Ettrick Bay 🔆😎🚲
A brilliant discussion on J G Ballard and experimental biography, launching The Illuminated Man co-written by the late Christopher Priest and Nina Allan. Nina chats with Camilla Grudova. Niall Harrison @briardenebooks.bsky.social on Priest’s essays The Recollections. @waterstonesargyle.bsky.social
An inspiring book launch on Bute for Love Is A Toad by Lucy Lapwing. Lucy asks how we can balance nature-love with nature-grief. A beautifully written memoir/polemic by one of our most enthusiastic and engaging conservationists. @blinkbooks.bsky.social
For Monday: a female blackbird, so well camouflaged, close to the footpath leading from Totnes to Ashprington, Devon. 💚
I’m a big fan of Sandra Newman’s novel The Heavens with its time slip from noughties New York to Elizabethan England. So, I’m pretty overwhelmed to read this early response. Coming: September 2026 @goldsf.bsky.social @goldsmithspress.bsky.social @unamccormack.bsky.social @sarahsuch.bsky.social
My best reads of 2025. That is, a broad selection from a good reading year 📚📚📚 annecharnock.com/end-of-year-...
