Physician, advocate. Healthcare and housing for all is a right. Board member @psr_washington. Safe streets.
Orange skies and air quality alerts replaced with orange t-shirts today to “cure cancer” Would be nice if we could prevent cancer in the first place with better air quality.
Skip the crowds at the UW Cherry blossoms in the spring You can enjoy the splendor of these native beauties all summer outside UW Dept of Environmental & Forest Services. Planted just last fall.
Probably the most dangerous part of the day for the Congresswoman spotted today - not the wildfire smoke but the turning vehicles in “beautiful” downtown Bellevue.
On my way back from hospital I saw the return of these blue annoyances. Fires burning all over WA state. We don’t need the extra air pollution.
Never thought I’d agree with a bank CEO. But this one visiting Seattle from the North Dakota Public bank says it is strong community that makes business successful. Not the other way around. WA needs a public bank.
Amazing result when you remove private cars from a city center. Cleaner air and safer for people walking & biking.
Every street, every crossing in Seattle should be designed with these kids in mind. Just watched them scoot over an arterial on a crosswalk. I held my breath until they were out of harms way. I’d like better street design so we don’t have to hold our breath at crossings.
Speeding was leading factor for crash deaths and injuries for walkers and rollers in Bellevue in 2025. Worst year in a decade. Reducing speeds to 25mph would save lives.
What might famous military commanders say about Seattle streets? They were obsessed with small things. Like pairs of shoes so men could walk. If only our planners were as obsessed over small things at the block level i.e. is it safe or pleasant to walk here. Then more communities would thrive.
I understand this driver. Everything is an obstacle when you’re behind the wheel. You don’t see the small kids walking to school. Cyclists have a lower social status & need to move out of your way. On a bike or walking you see the sound & color of everything. There is no rush. No obstacles.
Why is this vehicle a problem? From 2022-2024 in WA, turning drivers killed 19 pedestrians at signalized intersections. One quarter were in Seattle. Most drivers were in large vehicles like SUVs Since the driver didn’t see the No Right Turn on Red, let’s start by making all these turns illegal.
Random things you can’t do in a car. Look at the puppies at the dog rescue in Seattle all while staying seated. No wonder bike trips are at record levels.
Security took photos. Of a group talking about safe streets for walking & biking. Group included mayor, city council member, engineer and local bellevue residents. Thank goodness security guy finally decided we were ok. Complete streets are radical.
Good intentions. This driver stopped for the crosswalk. But if geese are going to make you crash, maybe let them fend for themselves a little. Driver was ok.
Every day I surprise my patients. By telling them their disease is not from poor personal choices, but rather from poor land-use decisions by their city. No access to safe walking & biking, more diabetes and kidney disease. They get it. @urbantruth.bsky.social #UrbanTruth
I was struck by this street. Devoid of life on a Sunday while the nearby Burke Gilman is full of people Seattle has “Stay Healthy” signs but the street feels unwelcoming, still car dominated. When people feel they can walk & bike safely on their own streets, the barricades will come down.
Piled up outside the Bouldering Project 20+ bikes almost daily. The City of Seattle allocates way more space to 4 people with cars. Given the price of gas, maybe the City can allocate more space for people on 2 wheels and 2 legs.
Great to see native plants for sale on Eastlake today 10-4pm Help pollinators buzz to your community. And you’ll meet your neighbors as you plant.
Nice! Seattle replaced the flex posts. Question is does the City use run over posts as a planning input or just a work order trigger? The former would require the City to think about why delivery trucks run over posts. Here’s hoping maintenance crews talk to planners. For safety’s sake.
Guess who knows how dangerous car drivers are in Bellevue You guessed it. The motorcycle people. In front of Kawasaki dealership, concrete blocks looking like an anti-tank line. Bellevue could do more with speed and design to get more walkers out here.
Is there a 7am rule in Seattle? That before 7am on weekends, drivers do not have to wait for a green light. Terrible inconvenience for these two drivers I’m sure. I waited for the light as there is a blind bend to the right.
Walkability is a huge factor for determining your health. Parking private stuff on public sidewalks for extended periods might be a reason many people do not walk.
Two sides of the same tree in Seattle. One side full of color where someone created beauty. The other side grass, welcoming to a parked car. Maybe the City should offer native plants & seeds to encourage community building.
This section seems like a great spot for a Shared Street or plaza in South Wallingford. Next to the Eco built Brooks Building, the Bouldering Project, ice cream and pre schools. SDOT is already revamping the pedestrian crossing on Stone Way and N 36th.
Always exciting dodging massive trucks in the busy U district. “Just go around” is what we are told. Corporate profits drive these massive trucks which require fewer drivers. Smaller vehicles would increase safety on city streets.
Walkout by kids just now from Eastside Prep chanting ICE OUT NOW! Interesting when kids of billionaires start protesting in the streets. This is the school where both Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates sent their kids.
Seen at the Seattle VA today. People find a way to remember VA ICU nurse Alex Pretti shot down on the street while helping someone.
Great spot for automated camera enforcement of bike lane in U district. 2 for 1 yesterday! I can always dream 😊
Radical step in the doctors lounge today. For 2026 I removed the “tip” for anti immigrant Brandy Kruse podcast & replaced with @finchfrii.bsky.social Crystal Fincher. Seems like the right move for a lounge filled with immigrant doctors like me.
