Computers, for most people, are communication tools, not creative tools.
Generative AI changes that. People with no computer aptitude are able to create things or discover things via ChatGPT and Claude that were simply beyond their ken heretofore. Per Clarke's third law, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic".
Generative AI feels a bit magical to all of us, even those of us with mid-to-high levels of understanding how computers work and how to make them work. But it feels like the first time ever that computers have been tools for their own creation for a lot of rather dimwitted but confident corporate manager/executive types.

This moment feels like the Big Bang to them. The religiosity of this is such that there is no way to convince them that AI, as it stands today, is impressive and useful and innovative, yes, but several orders of magnitude less so than they're imagining that it is. No way to convince them, that is, until the bubble bursts.

Lyman Stone, director of the Pronatalism Initiative at the Institute for Family Studies in Char-lottesville, Va., wrote in an essay in the New York Times this past weekend that U.S. population could begin to shrink in the 2050s, which is earlier than other population outlooks.

"Drawing up budget plans on the assumption that we have reached our lowest fertility point, despite other rich countries' rates being even lower, is nonsensicalẠạStone wrote. He recommended "an end to the marriage penalties woven through our tax and welfare codes" and a surge in housing construction to make life more affordable for young couples.

The road design here was an invitation for child-killings. Well, it worked. A 13-year-old was killed crossing to McDonalds because the city and county made this road this way. County + city engineers, and elected politicians who fail to fund safety, deserve equal blame as the hit-and-run driver.

I can’t figure out the road engineer checklist that allowed a city to spend taxpayer money to create this crosswalk to … well nothing. Retaining walls!? Still the sidewalk on that left side of the photo has been deeply needed since it was a sidewalk-free neighborhood until a couple years ago.

I think you’re right on for a lot of suburban streets especially cul de sac types. That exact one in the photo (the sidewalk was indeed built) it was the single connector street linking a public elementary school to townhouse neighborhoods to the southeast, and a retail strip with a busy Target.

This was not fiction.

"I'm a witch," the person exclaimed. "I hex all of you!"

The crowd stirred after hearing the words. When the person ultimately left, a man in the crowd called on the group to take a minute to pray.

"We cancel that curse, that hex, in Jesus's name," the man said.

"Amen," the crowd replied.

After proclaiming the curse null and l void, the group blessed the person, asking for divine intervention in the heckler's thinking. "Amen,' ," the group concluded.
