Making Jen’s point for her This is Reach’s Black Country Live / Birmingham Mail take on today’s announcement They have fantasised a council tax rebate into being
Also: flags are great. It’s nice to fly flags. But obvs need transport housing and economic development too!
I am so sick of this. Reach locally run 20 scare stories a day on benefit cuts on Black Country Live, cos they know fearful people will click This is based on Blunkett musing on possible benefit changes for Neets Not local news, not in fact news just speculation, headlined to scare. For shame.
Good news! After local manufacturers told me businesses like theirs were going to miss out on BICS support, I raised it with ministers - and this week the Government have updated the scheme to include more manufacturing types. Good things happen when ministers listen to MPs who listen to business.
Utterly delightful to welcome work experience students Loris from Sandwell Academy and Zara from Stuart Bathurst to Parliament today - and to a very special session of PMQs
Happy Black Country Day! Bit blowy, but here’s me with my flag proudly representing Our flag is for “black by day, red by night” with the white of the furnaces and the iconic chains representing the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution
Today I was proud to nominate Andy Burnham as Leader of the Labour Party and our next PM
That is literally what he has said? Did you read the piece I linked?
Here’s the relevant extract Key issue - unmentioned here - is cutting industrial energy costs. There is no reindustrialisation til our energy costs are at France or Germany’s level. We need to act to take policy costs off for industry as we ramp up renewables and SMRs
Emotion catching up with me. Love them all, but this guy will always be my captain. So proud of you Marc
No more workers being forced into zero hours contracts - no exceptions. Here's me and @usdawunion.bsky.social's Joanne Thomas at this week's Business & Trade select committee, on making sure the details of Labour's Employment Rights Act work for working people.
Went to Pat’s Homemade Bakes in Wednesbury. My usual FB commenters on about how I just went for a photo opp. Nope, I went for CAKE!
Proud as always to stand up for Amazon workers prevented from getting their union GMB recognised in the Coventry warehouse yesterday
Today was a good day. Loved supporting the West Mids supply chain automotive reps in their meeting with the Industry Minister Chris McDonald - really great on the ground experiences that he needs to know to do his job well
Been a long day in Parliament but I’ve finally got out of there, got a beer, got my flag, and I’m ready 🏴🏴🏴
I can hardly believe it has been nine years. Still the families and survivors await justice - let’s hope it’s delivered before the next anniversary 💚
In memory of Kay Don’t settle for the hand life dealt you Put your hand up when help is needed Believe in every kid And spend more time with the people you love Kay Bance 11 Feb 1953-16 May 2026 Love you Mum
Happy national fish and chip day! Enjoying Black Country orange chips
Great statement from Labour First We will only deliver the change we promised and beat populism by governing with Labour and trade union values. Why we must reject alliances with rival parties:
Our independent bookshop in Wednesbury (Blue Sheep Books - pick them as your shop on bookshop.org!) has a CAT! He is called Max and notionally lives at the florist and greengrocer opposite, but the bookshop is much cosier
Tomorrow you COULD wake up to a Reform led council in Sandwell... 😮 Chaos, division and incompetence 👎 Only Labour can beat Reform in Sandwell 🌹 Use all 3 of your votes for Labour to stop Reform right here in Sandwell 🗳️
