This is a must-read for anyone in academia. While it focuses on administrative positions in certain parts, it's such an excellent resource with stats and critiques of all the indigenization/reconciliation rhetoric that it's got something for everyone. Highly recommend.

Election results for Edmonton Griesbach. The NDP incumbent has 31.34% of the vote, and the Liberal candidate has 19.02%. The Conservative jerkwad has 47.25%. Vote splitting by Liberals fucked us. Just a few polling stations left to report but the election has been called in the Conservative's favour.

Today I picked this book up, and I'm super pumped to read it. I honestly LOOOOVE work that focus on various dystopian scenarios and imagines life beyond - especially when the authors acknowledge previous apocalypses. I'm not sure how much Indigenous stuff is in here if at all yet, but I've got lots.

The books is titled Scatter, Adapt, and Remember: How Humans Will Survive a Mass Extinction, by Annalee Newitz. The cover features a planet's surface with large craters and a small house in the middle of the largest crater with smoke coming out of the chimney, and a small orange moon or other celestial body in the background.

Don't want to dunk on this person particularly but the way settler cultures who have historic beef over the right to colonize lands and peoples, will always side with one another during times of stress rather than ever acknowledge, identify with, or learn about Indigenous Peoples.

The article begins: New York University has hired notorious Israel-hater to lead a new venture dedicated to Indigenous studies, sparking outrage from top leaders at the school, and name Eve Tuck.

The NY Post article goes on to quote Tuck as defending Hamas' deadly rampage, quoting her saying, "Unprovoked is dishonest framing. A free Palestine is possible because of how Palestinians have worked to keep alive and remake other framing, other futures." The article continues: Days later as Israelis were still counting their dead, she called Hamas' resistance to Israel affirming. On October 26th Tuck signed a letter blaming Israel for Hamas' butchery.

My post, which is quoted here, says, "If you're new here I will never accept that settler colonial nations have any right to exist. Decolonization means Indigenous land and life-ways back, no cops, no landlords, and probably other stuff that might twist up your ginch so beware." The response from this person to that post is, "Curious how I will get my insulin and supplies in such a scenario? Who cares about a diabetic anyway, right?" Then they have a bunch of other responses from folks basically projecting genocidal ideation on Indigenous sovereignty.

Here's a helpful slide I use when I talk about this with folks.

A slide with the title "What is Canada Made of?" It has two headings, one that says "Colonialism?" and another that says "Settler Colonialism?" Definitions follow. Colonialism is acquiring full or partial control over another country, subjugating the people, taking political and economic control. Allegiance and resources go to the country of origin. Settler Colonialism is a distinct type of colonialism that functions through the replacement of Indigenous populations with an invasive settler society that develops distinctive identity and sovereignty. There is a quote from Decolonization is not a Metaphor by Eve Tuck and K Wayne Yang that says, "Settler colonialism is different from other forms of colonialism in that settlers come with the intention of making a new home on the land, a homemaking that insists on settler sovereignty over all things in their new domain."
